Instead on some are an (V) This means these videos (are not) current Ukraine invasion... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 49344098 Are all the straws you guys are grasping at made in china too? The MI Abrams main battle tank is over 40 years old in design and it is our state of the art tank. It typically fails after around 1000 hours or 500 miles of operation in combat [whichever comes first], and has what most military experts consider a fragile and unreliable turbine engine. While it is true it has adequate armor to protect the crew, the tracks and engine are easily disabled by improvised munitions. At the time it was developed it was at the leading edge of tank technology and much ballyhooed as a force to be reckoned with with its shoot on the run fin stabilized depleted uranium sabot ammo, but even at the time of its implementation tank crews were trained to expect a 3 minute survival time in an all out tank battle with Russian tanks. Yes, and the Yemen goat farmers found out if you can get few gallons of gasoline poured into filter area on back of tank then bye bye M1A1 Not gasoline. Those were Yemeni goat farmers armed with Iranian ATGMs which can hit a Saudi M1A2 from two miles away. The current M1A2 defense system can’t really defend against this simple kind of attack. Reactive armor can help and there are M1 upgrades for American tanks that could possibly further help, but complete, reliable 360-degree protection doesn’t exist in this family of tanks. But never mind that, lay some more whataboutism propaganda on us, Comrade. This info was from an American tank commander. I agree yes lots of man portable rockets. The gasoline was a big problem too. The way I understood it is pouring it into the vents in rear deck and lighting it would burn the air filtration unit and kill everyone in the tank unless they got out then they'd be shot. He explained that this could never happen with US operators. Each tank watches the rear of each other tank. This leaves no single tank open for pouring gas. He said their inexperienced operators are making themselves vulnerable to this type of attack. |

User ID: 82363333 03/05/2022 11:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Russian doctrine is not like the US. US brigades drag thousands of support soldiers with them everywhere they go. Your radio or thermal scope or any other obscure piece of equipment fails there's a section of technicians trained and equipped to evaluate and if possible repair it. An entire company of vehicle mechanics will follow along with parts, tools, and recovery vehicles. They can put a half dozen or more broken vehicles a day back on the road. Russia has never employed organic support to it's field units. Instead of using men for support they figure just put them in more tanks. Add to this the fact that Russia is intentionally holding it's best equipped units in reserve to discourage a NATO response. They're putting old worn out equipment in the field because they figure Ukraine doesn't warrant their new equipment. The US has retired thousands of M1 tanks which didn't enter service until the 1980s. Comparatively Russia is fielding equipment that was built 20 years prior. Serviceable and updated perhaps, yet still very old and prone to failure. And there's nobody to fix it. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79793927 Americans would indiscriminately bomb, destroying power plants communications, and water. Russians have total air superiority so this option is available to them. There are plenty of videos showing Ukrainian Cities seemingly unaffected. It has been speculated that the Russians intend to surround the major cities without undue civilian deaths. This may be a lesson learned from their Afghanistan fiasco. Every person unnecessarily killed creates at least 2 insurrectionists. Targets are limited to the military sites. good points |

Me thinks that the convoy in Kiev is stalled because access points to the city are blocked with bridges blown and the front column is pinned down due to heavy resistance from the Ukrainian army. |

My experience was from Chinese bicycle tires purchased on Amazon. they wore out in just 3 months and the rear one had little air bubbles in the rubber. maybe they didn't write the whole process down when they stole the recipe for tires. Time-Traveler ?? Japanese electronics were Great in the 1970's and beyond. Marantz, Pioneer, even Technics made great Audio products for the home consumer. Good Cameras as well. So 40 years ago would be 1982. Japan was producing pretty decent stuff back then; video Cameras and such. |

USA has the same issues and we have an unbelievable maintenance program. That's why we have wreckers trailers and yes sometimes just leave shit. It's simply part of the equation. I was in Columbia SC and a wrecker and drop decks had to cone pick up 2 Buffaloes. One quit the other one was maybe air conditioning I think. The guys couldn't drive it. It was too hot. I believe(hope) it was national guardsmen not real army heheh. I did look them over really well. Awesome rigs but unbelievable how exposed electric, air and hydraulic lines were. They must not drive them off road. Sticks would disable the entire vehicle no problem Quoting: Anonymous Coward 82323251 Our "unbelievable maintenance program" consists of the philosophy "fix it til' it's broke". Meaning, we overkill the maintenance on things until they break prematurely from basic routine maintenance wear. Lol I can't argue that possible point.
