Russia always was rich in natural resources, but their people are still poor.

Why is that? Perhaps the crony capitalism they practice in reality yields poor results. Note that the USA suffers from the same disease but not so severe.

There ARE things that Russia needs to import, e.g., spare parts for ag machinery, oil/gas parts, consumer goods, etc.

Some of that can come from China and other countries not participating in the sanctions.

However, I know for a fact that some critical parts are beyond the capability of any but the advanced economies.

Defaults such as this poison the well for a generation or so of foreign investors.

The sanctions are gonna leave a mark.

BTW, the West seems pretty unified on the response. That is because Putin has volunteered to be the scapegoat for all of our economic problems:

-Stagnant economies? Putin's fault.
