Russell Bentley is a communist and a traitor who defected to Russia in 2014 and joined the Russian Donetsk People's Republic. He was given the codename "Texas" after joining the Novorussian army in 2014. He now writes propaganda for the Kremlin.

Russell Bentley was born in Texas in 1960 to a wealthy family and he became interested in communism at the age of twelve after reading the works of men such as Ho Chi Minh and Che Guevara. Bentley, a self-proclaimed communist, first set foot in Donetsk on December 7, 2014 and he has never been back.

In the mid-1990s, Bentley made a radicalizing trip to Cuba where his socialist leanings hardened into communism. “I went with Pastors for Peace, with Medea Benjamin from Code Pink, and a bunch of those guys,” Bentley recalls. On the island, he met a captain in the Cuban army who told him that “a communist is someone that’s willing to fight for socialism.” He vowed then: “I’m going to quit being a pussy and calling myself a socialist; I am a communist.”
