Tornado Chances Across the South USA Today, Including FL, 2/12/08 -
Hi all. Got a great discussion for you today. It was a tough one, but FL looks interesting, preferably Southwestern FL.

ONTARIO WEATHER SERVICE
SEVERE WEATHER FORECAST CENTER
TORNADO DYNAMICS
FEBRUARY 12, 2008 - 3:00am PST

Individual discussions on each map have been developed for this test. I am going to let the formula show tornado watch boxes. Yesterday, I would have had them in Mexico where a supercell was indicated, probably dropping a tornado there. Also some rotation within a cell West of Houston was indicated. A warning was not issued, but it was close to producing I bet. Rotation was clearly evident on radar.
The first map has a black background. The rest have a lighter brown background. The lighter brown will become standard in all forecast maps from now on.

Today is a tough day. Tornado dynamics are scattered across the South, so the formula is having a very tough time putting watches out; however, decided to let it try. Read on...

--

Afternoon 2/12/08 ( 7+ hour warning lead time )

TORNADO WATCH : During this time period, we will be seeing tornado dynamics in the Louisiana area. The storm motion will be to the Northeast and the watch box extends into Western Mississippi. The watch box is outlined.

Late Afternoon - Evening - 2/12/08 ( 10+ hour warning lead time )

TORNADO WATCH : During this time period, we have a mixed up atmosphere where I will be watching two areas for tornado potential. One being the Northern most watch. This is in North-Northwestern Alabama, extending up to Tennessee. Confidence with the Northern watch is not all that high due to the cooler temperatures in the area, but temperatures over 60 may be enough to support severe thunderstorms, that of which could produce a tornado.
The second watch has a bit more confidence. This one is the Southern most watch and includes Southeastern Louisiana, going Northeastward through Southern Mississippi, and finally ending in extreme Southwestern Alabama. The storm motion will be to the North-Northeast in this area. This watch will be extended into the Evening and after sunset hours as the map below shows.
Also the Florida area. This area is in growing tornado dynamics all day, and all evening. This is a place to watch.

--

Evening - After sunset 2/12/09 ( 12+ hour warning lead time )

TORNADO WATCH : The watch will be moved to included the Central Alabama area. A line of convection should be forming, severe, with a chance of tornadoes during this time-frame.
The Florida chances I talked about above actually grow. Curious as I am, I have done a watch for tornadoes for Extreme Southwestern Florida. An impulse coming up from the South may trigger severe thunderstorms in this area. Level 4 suggest tornado chances are on the high side. Confidence in these watches is moderate at this time, with Florida being the highest confidence. Odd as that sounds, Southwestern Florida could see a tornado today, radar or person indicated.

SPC issued the first watch 5 hours after mine...

SPC issued the second watch 9 hours after mine...

Alright lets get a break down of the second map we are on Vs all these tornado warnings. I have plotted warnings, and confirmed touchdowns so far...This is for the debunkers as well if they want to debunk. lol.

Number of Tornado Watches Issued by the Tornado Forecast Formula = Two

Number of Tornado Warnings in and around the Watch Boxes = Ten

Number of Tornado Touchdowns in Watch box areas = None

----------

Number of Tornado Warnings in tornado forecast formula outlines = 15 or ALL of them.

Number of Tornado Touchdowns in tornado forecast formula outlines = Two or ALL of them

Number of Tornado Touchdowns and Warnings OUT OF tornado forecast formula outlines = NONE.

Check the second and third maps out. If I am right, the tornado chances in Central FL may weaken, but increase on the Southern end as the evening wears on..

I have a watch out for the Southwestern end for some interesting dynamics a bit later, but for now, tornado dynamics are def across the entire state...

SPC has you under a 10% tornado outline in West Palm Beach. So they think the chances for tornadoes is high.

I differ with being much lower of chances for you than they advertise.

Any idea about North west FL; North of Ft. Walton/Destin? Of course we have a watch but the squall line appears to have weakened and broken up a bit. Any idea of the risk?

Thanks!

Kevin,
Please talk about last night and why you were so far off from what the SPC and NOAA were predicting. (I too know ALL THE REAL SITES to get to data that most ppl wouldn't understand without specific training)

I guess what I am saying is that I saw nothing that indicated Tornadic activity, yet you insisted on alerting us to the strong possibility of a possible outbreak in DFW. I called this a non-event on Sunday yet you ignored my posts.

What gives?

Risk is minimum up North.

UPDATE: My third map is becoming valid now. Thunderstorms are erupting on cue offshore Southwestern FLORIDA in the small watch box I had up.

This should become interesting!

Never said strong pos of tornadoes. Last night had low cloud bases, and rotation within the line in DFW. There was an amazing lightning display I heard from one of my reporters...

There was rotation indicated, but no warnings given..

Anything could have happened last night..

Fact is, the tstorms were svr, had some rotation ,and did come to DFW.

At least one person died after a strong line of storms moved through Southeast Louisiana Tuesday.

The storms produced strong winds, some hail and reports of funnel clouds.

Hospital administrators at Lallai Kemp in Independence say that a 51-year-old patient left the building against advice and was swept up in a funnel cloud and died.

Eyewitness News' Bigad Shaban is on the scene and will have a live report at 5 p.m.

Thanks man. There are increasing tornado dynamics over SW FL right now. Also radar indicated large waterspout offshore moving toward the SW FL coast. Time of arrival would be an hour or two..

I don't think much will happen across the central parts right now, but SPC still has the watch out for those areas so always that chance..

My target risk is def SW FL..
