In my experience, taking out an IV, needle and all, doesn’t usually lead to a lot of blood, unless one is on blood thinners. He said most of the blood was coming from his private parts, where he had removed the balloon catheter without disinflating it. Major Ouch.

I have had 3 of my closest family members die on Hospice. One must have a terminal illness with less than 6 months to live. They take no measures to prolong life, only to make the patient comfortable. It allows people to die at home with their family rather than in a hospital or nursing home. Medicare paid for all supplies. Aides came to the house regularly and an RN once a week. All those who cared for my mother came to her funeral. I am deeply grateful for their care.

Hospice is not for everyone as in the above post. I do not see a terminal diagnosis there. One can be taken off Hospice at any time. They are there for end of life care not to prolong life. If that does not meet your needs, don't go on Hospice. Your choice.

Since I made replies earlier in the thread, I want to remark on the interview. I was not aware that the Cares bill reimbursed hospitals for uninsured patients.
It is my opinion that he was sedated by EMT to keep him immobile until he could be removed from the car. He was intoxicated which makes it dangerous to administer certain drugs. What happened between the time he was knocked out until the time he woke up should be in the medical record.
Without an understanding of what occurred during that 6 hour timeframe, it is impossible for anyone to comment or make assumptions on why he was put on a ventilator.

I found Ben to be quite likable and somewhat intelligent. He sounds as though he is trying to be honest.

Without all the facts, it is impossible to determine if something nefarious was going on.

I see an intoxicated man unconscious with a head injury who is lucky to have survived the accident, with one hell of a liver.

Emergency personnel have to deal with this crap day in and day out. He probably passed out while driving. He partied the night before and had 2 or 3 beers before noon the next morning on an empty stomach. He used poor judgment in getting behind the wheel of a car.

The young lady should not have spoken saying that he was on a ventilator because he had Covid. I seriously doubt that is why he was intubated. He was intubated because he was intoxicated with a head injury and was unconscious. If he was positive, again he shows reckless behavior.

He does need the advice of a lawyer if he is making implications that the hospital is guilty of misconduct. He needs to shut up and prove it in court or else he risks being guilty of liable. Then, you can't squeeze blood from a turnip. How many thousands did the life saving efforts of 30 to 50 people cost? If he is uninsured, I doubt snyone will collect a dime.

Yup ^^ this is the truth. There is nothing worse than a nurse too stupid to know what they don't know, and running their mouth as if they themselves are the trauma surgeon. Just gotta roll the eyes and let them go or else they will fight you and backstab you at work. Nurses can be HORRIBLE to each other, and other staff. Its sad to watch sometimes.

Ya, I agree.... if you yank just part of IV and leave port in, and damage it... you might squirt blood all over... but if needle and all is out... probably not much.

I cannot imagine pulling out cath without deflating though... but if he was on all that stuff they said was in the IV, maybe he couldn't feel much lol. Crazy.

I can say, I'm local to this area, and there are a lot of (for lack of a better term) "deplorables" out here who definitely check a lot of the stereotypical boxes. Its not fair to paint everyone with that same brush, but I think this guy has no idea what was actually going on around him.

I don't think they had him on a vent to kill him. This hospital is definitely run by communists though. They've lost TONS of staff over idiotic mandate policies. So the ones they have left after that are who you are dealing with if you go there. God help us.

But they WILL not change your name away from John Doe until you wake up and sign papers to say who you are. He didn't do that but I'm sure police/sheriff still told them who they assumed he was based on plates from the vehicle and personal effects at the scene. Also, I'm sure they would have offered him remdesivir if he stayed (assuming he tested positive). Because they try to give that out like candy here too.... and he might have ended up in much worse situation had he not left... but I think he also didn't understand what happened to him and why they did stuff.

If he left AMA, then I know for a fact FMC will go out of their way to make themselves as unhelpful as possible. They dump people on the street basically, which sounds like what happened to him.

We are at the point where we have NO evidence of what transpired, other than this man’s testimony. There are ALWAYS two sides to every story. I really want to hear what the hospital has to say on the matter, as well as the EMT’s involved.

On the face of it, if true, this was awful, but we MUST reserve judgement until all the facts are in. To do otherwise is to do grave injustice to the first responders, the hospital and staff.
