Rita Saenz, who was hired BY NEWSOM to head the department that millions of Californians relied on unemployment aid due to hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, has left EDD.

"The EDD has tried so hard to downplay their most recent failure at preventing fraud within their disability programs. Their 'nothing to see here' excuse-making is actually hurting people."

Even though Saenz is leaving EDD, she will continue to work for the state as a commissioner on the California Commission on Aging.

California became the magnet for fraud with criminal rings and even prisoners collecting fraudulent unemployment payments from across the state and across the country. Even fledgling criminals bought tutorials on how to apply for, and get, easy money. All this happened while California’s unemployed workforce struggled to get their legitimate claims.
