I mean, wasn't the prediction a lot of strange deaths a few years later? And here we are a few years later and... Just spitballing.... maybe this was already discussed and dismissed..?  If this were so then wouldn’t the west coast see greater casualties? The radiation would hit the west coast first plus be more potent there as it dissipates across the USA. It does not dissipate. Wind currents factor in.
