They are putting the crappy bleach in most town water supplies now. I haul water from a high mountain creek for drinking purposes.

When you boil the tap water it leaves a chalky white film caked to your pans. It clogs up pipes, filters, and water heaters. What do you think it's doing to you?

All preppers already know to only use the plain, old-school Clorox bleach. No splashless or scented, or any other kind. Common knowledge.

I bought a big Berkey filter years ago on sale. Great investment, I have well water and it costs pennies per gallon to purify. And the minerals go through.

Why on earth would anyone willingly drink bleach?

Sanitize water by first filtering it, and then add about a half cup of 20ppm ionic silver per gallon of water. Not only will it kill all the microbes in about 5 minutes, but is perfectly safe to drink.

Just get a good $300 water filtration under the sink kit.

Yep .... Pay attention to the label.

There is still just PLAIN bleach out there to buy, but there is so much other stuff on the shelf that if you aren't paying attention you will buy something that has LOTS of additives in it.

IF you have to suddenly bug out be sure to grab your bottle of BASIC bleach to take with you (never buy the other kind) to take with you, it could be a life saver. Remember - 8 drops per gallon then let it sit for a minimum of 30 minutes (colder water should sit longer)

A good gravity filter system, such as backpackers use, is a good option, but if you go that route be sure to get extra filters. Also once they get wet they can NEVER be allowed to freeze since that will destroy their innards. Note some are only good for 100-300 gallons or so, stay away from those. Sawyer makes a very inexpensive ones ($30) that will filter 10's of thousands of gallons - Dalton makes excellent ceramic filters, expensive but considered the Gold Standard, that are utilized as the guts of several different water filtration system products made by others. If you get just a Dalton filter you will need to rig up your own plastic tubing to it to make it work (there are some good plans on the internet as to what you need to get if you want to go that route)

The old iodine system from Polar Pure was great small easy to use system for just a week long trip or so ... but you don't want to consume all that iodine for weeks or months on end (can't buy that system anymore ... due to meth labs the Fed Govt forced Polar Pure to stop making that EXCELLENT water purification system) ... IF you see a Polar Pure (brown) bottle at a yard sale BUY IT!! It is good to go until the iodine crystals are finally used up, which will be DECADES.

My personal preference now it the Sawyer system. The filter is new technology and the system is by far the most inexpensive system out there with the bonus that the filters are good for about 100,000 gallons. SUPER SMALL too!!

Sawyer may be good, but other systems are .01 microns. That is .02.

Sawyer's specs are .1 micron. I haven't seen anything in the consumer price category that filters down any smaller.

Where I'm at almost everyone is on catchment. Standard filter setup is 30 micron string, 20 micron string, 5 micron carbon and if you are fancy, a uv filter rated for max whole house use or better.

Nobody is really dying from their water.
