Quoting: Unclefungus Just shopped tonight... Picking up various items for the family. You know, Eggs, Milk, Beef, Honey Nut Cheerios and such. On my list was Potatoes ( Specifically, Breakfast potatoes. In addition was white potatoes and Russets.) I have to tell you... In the breakfast potato section their were Potatoes O'Brien, There were Skillet Potatoes, There were those little "hockey puck" potatoes, which are nice but, full of oils and such. There were NO shortages. In-Fact, They had Meats a-plenty. (Chuck Roast, AKA Pot Roast was 3.99 a pound, so I picked up 8 lbs. New York Steaks were 7.99 a pound, so I picked up 5 lbs of those as well) What a world. Last Edited by Travis Bickle on 01/21/2022 03:59 AM One of these days... However I have a good friend up in Illinois that emailed me writing how crazy the grocery stores are with running out of basic staples. It's hot or miss right now for people in places. We'll see if these shortages pan out the way everyone has been aluding. I've prepared and so has a few of my employees and family. Mlst people I know are still living off grubhub or eating out all the time and don't have anything beyond a few meals worth of preps in their pantry. To each theor own, one thing I can't argue is that soon the past two years of bad crop yields will come home to roost. User ID: 79917664 United States 01/21/2022 05:53 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My oldest Son works in the produce department of a chain grocery in the Mid Atlantic. He comes home and tells us how the produce manager is having them spread what few items they get in just to give the appearance of being full. When that no longer works they apparently put up signs they have in the back for when an item is recalled simply because they are tired of answering the numerous questions about what is going on and why there are such limited supplies. My Wife shops for us at that same store and she confirms it is not just the produce department as shelves all over the store are empty and the only thing they seem to have in any sort of abundance is bottled water. Apparently only one truck a day is arriving now and it is only half full at best. Have gone to other stores in the area and they look about the same with notably barren shelves and more displays set up than usual trying to just give the appearance of a full store. What is worse is that my Son's employer is now getting very particular about how many hours people work when they used to practically beg people to work overtime and they have started to cut hours of some of the newer employees. Grocery stores typically run on a thin profit margin and with nothing to sell they will not be able to afford to pay a bunch of people to just stand around or move displays back and forth for much longer. endthefed1980 |

It arrived. Expensively I might add. The fact that it arrived so quickly tells me how manufactured this crisis is. Unload the damn boats. I've got mac n cheese for a lifetime. User ID: 78686355 01/21/2022 06:02 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Any idea how long the Mac and Cheese that comes with the cheese squeeze packs would last? All you need for those is to be able to cook the pasta, you don't need milk. I add a pat of butter for taste. That stuff is pretty good, the cracker barrel brand is good. If you had freeze dried meat you could add it. Bacon yesterday at Piggly Wiggly. 3.50 a pack for the cheap stuff. That's down 75 cents from a few weeks ago. OMG it was better than the stuff from Whole F. They forgot Turkey is a wild game that you can hunt for it. Since when is it inferior? I used to go to a place that bakes a fresh turkey every day for sliced breast. Bake a small turkey and use it all up for soup, sandwiches, homemade frozen dinners. Yummy! Anonymous Coward User ID: 80382513 United States 01/21/2022 06:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | (Natural News) America’s supply chains are already extremely fragile. Port congestions, labor shortages, rampant inflation and pandemic-related economic restrictions are all significantly increasing the likelihood of rampant food shortages in the near future. Here are the 12 signs that food shortages are already here. Quoting: Perma-Banned Shortage of potatoes and other potato-based products The world is already experiencing a shortage of potatoes. Late last year, American freight forwarder Flexport Inc. announced that it will fly three Boeing 747s loaded with potatoes to Japan to help deal with the country’s shortage. Japan’s lack of potatoes has gotten so bad that McDonald’s was forced to ration how much french fries it could sell. More shelves are being stocked with turkey Turkey is considered to be “the last line of protein” that shoppers will turn to when they have no other option for their main meat. This is a sign that all of the other usual meat products, like chicken, beef and pork, are running low. Significant increase in the price of citrus products The price of basically every food product in supermarkets has increased. Citrus products are not unique in this regard, as citrus disease and freak weather patterns have strained America’s supply of oranges and other citrus-based products. The Department of Agriculture expects American orange farmers to produce their smallest crop since World War II. No food shortage in this market. The local farmers, dairies, ranchers, etc. have room to grow. But they need more of you to opt out of the corporate food chain that is breaking down. Yes, you may pay a little more, but you are getting far superior food. One can argue we are far cheaper in the long run when you factor in medical expenses that rack up after years of eating garbage. |

Besides spices, coffee, fruits and vegetables out of season, what can't America provide for itself? What's breaking down is global homo lowest cost feudalism. American consumers need to shed the dollar store mentality. Remember, quality over quantity always wins. |
