Let's be honest. Ukraine has not controlled the east of Ukraine for many years. Elections are held without the east being allowed to vote. Almost all of those people now hold Russian passports.

Interesting that nothing is mentioned about Crimea where Russia has boots on the ground.

The issue is that Ukraine already has no control over the east and wants it back. This will only happen with much death and persecution including a mass migration from the east of Ukraine into Russia.
