Drunk driving laws have changed and become more severe than any other law over time. The only time I was almost killed was when a texting driver ran a red light and T-boned me, witnesses stopped and confirmed. I bet she didn't even lose her license.

They have the technology to install in every car that would prevent it, without being too intrusive (sensors in steering wheel, shifter, air monitors, etc. ) but then they don't get the $ and pleasure of public shaming. And everyone likes to "have a few" after work or at dinner.

I don't know anyone who makes good decisions when drunk, that's part of the appeal. Many many people don't get caught, wake up the next day, and regret it and count their lucky stars.
