My parents grew up even poorer in Europe. Both my parents worked, father in construction and mother in a factory. Dad made decent money but was out of work in the winter due to no jobs. Mom worked the night shift not making much money. They never went to a food bank. I couldn't imagine going to a food bank either. If I can't survive on my labor/abilities to acquire food, in my eyes I'd be a failure. Not knocking you OP..like you said its a government program that taxpayers are paying for. But for me, I would never go to a food bank unless I was a vegetable. In which case, I would want to be dead. Don’t let shame get in the way of survival. It’s a new age. The countries are collapsing. My parents wouldn’t go to a food bank back then either, and I suffered malnutrition and hunger my whole childhood. Put your kids ahead of your pride. Every illegal collecting our tax benefits does. I take you never had a free block of Government cheese and had grilled cheese sandwiches growing up fried bologna and hotdogs a a main Course for dinner, Chili was no meat just sauce and potatoes. A food stamp was literally a food stamp like a checkbook not a credit card. Glad you had a silver spoon in your mouth. |

User ID: 46795985 United States 01/20/2022 10:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Most food banks are on an honor system-- you just walk in They kinda depend on people not being A holes and essentially stealing food meant for/dontated to poor people when they can afford their own I guess you haven't been in a bit. I needed the food badly and they give you cases on top of the regular food. No one asks for extra. And this is the government food program now I am supposed to feel bad? Fuck I work hard and I can't get insurance or EBt but people who never paid taxes can? And BTW I've got the oldest car in line. Asshole ?? Not today. Don’t pay any mind to the jerks. If we must pay taxes, I would rather those taxes help you than line the pockets of politicians and jerks like these dummies commenting here. You did good. Sonflower17 |

Same. My mother applied for food stamps we never saw them.she was too ashamed to use them and we did go without food often. I decided to lose my pride for the kids. I do remember being hungry . |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 70707278 United States 01/20/2022 10:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have been hesitant to post this before but single mom here with no budget for food at all. They say I do not qualify for anything because I work two jobs to pay the inflated rents. So I was forced to go to the food bank. Quoting: Just me 80513279 I had no idea most are funded and supplied by the USDA. And we get mucho cases of food each week. To date ( and this is after eating only this food too all since November with kids) this is my stash. I have eight cases of beans (24 cans) 5 cases of peanut butter 10 cases of canned fruit 40 lbs of assorted dried beans. A case of powered milk. A case of instant potatoes industrial size. About 300 lbs of meat enough for three freezers anyways. 5 cases of macaroni cheese. 20 lbs of butter. 50 lbs of pet smart dog food I don't need more but could have had 150lbs by now. A case of spaghetti sauce. Case of tomato m cans 50 lbs of rice. 55 lbs of pasta. Two cases each of large size tuna, chicken and salmon. One case of canned ham. 3 cases of carrots. Two cases of corn One case of beef stew. One case of corned beef hash. One case of tomato soup. One case of dried prunes A case of brownie mix. Two cases of rolled oats 3 cases of raisins And enough fresh vegetables to plant for a large garden, I have sweet potatoes growing already. I'm still going each week for the milk and eggs and I am planning to have enough food to share and barter if things get worse .I sleep better knowing I do have food prepped. Hope this helps someone else. It's your tax dollars don't feel bad . That’s a nice offer but to your regional readers. If SHTF how far away do you go to “meetup?” To what cost? What trust? Things you don’t fully soak in until the shit really hits. What’s the universal communication standard of cellular goes down? HAM? CB? I guess a little of those both and more. There’ll be distractions in the future for that just as there are distractions here today. |

I think you are a good mom Op, who is simply doing what one must to survive in the world to come, sooner or later. As a mother myself, I know the feeling of just wanting to make sure they will be provided for and everything is secured for when SHTF. Once we are awake there is no going back to sleep, and when you are a parent or have people dependant on you to survive, I think we just want to give ourselves as much of a head start as possible. Good on you for taking care of loose ends OP, and Who gives a fuck, you are working two jobs already, I think you deserve a break where you can get in it girl! Do what you gotta do, and I am sure you will do right by your kiddos, as you are already thinking ahead! From one prepper mom to another I sincerely wish you the best of luck! Wakeupworld13 |

User ID: 81915103 United States 01/20/2022 10:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I spent most of my best years being a corporate drone. I made pretty good money, had a pretty good lifestyle. My main hobby was gourmet cooking, and I never had to think about money while at the food store. Now, I'm living off savings, I have several investments. I can't get any kind of welfare, though I've paid into it all through my career. Now, I've had a taste of not working. Well, I play my money games but its nothing like working a corporate job. I am so spoiled now I can never go back. Sabrina |

And I don't plan to waste any of it. Why is this bad to you. There are many of us who work so we get NOTHING in the way of help. Fudge you for your assumption.
