Only on May 13, two Ukrainian UAVs, including one Bayraktar TB2, were intercepted over the island. Moreover, three Ukrainian Tochka-U ballistic missiles were intercepted, according to the Russian Ministry of Defence.

Allied forces are advancing towards Severodonetsk and Lysichansk from several directions.

From Voevodovka units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the NM of the LPR reached the line of the Borovaya River, completing the cleansing of villages on the western bank. To slow down the advance, Ukrainian sappers blew up a bridge on the road between Rubizhne and Severodonetsk.

Saint Iacob Putneanul was born on January 20, 1719 in a faithful family from Bucovina.  Growing up in the spirit of true piety, at the age of only 12 he entered the monastic life.  His spiritual formation is related to the community of Putna Monastery and Putna Hermitage, but also to Hierarch Anthony of Moldavia (1730-1740), whose disciple was the same Hierarch who, in Kyiv, convinced the future Saint Paisie of Neamt to come to Moldova to be formed spiritually).

The Putna Monastery priests seeing this young man with the wisdom of an old man and chosen life, they ordained him to be ordained a priest at only 17 years old, then he was elected abbot of Putna Monastery at the age of 25.  In 1745 he was elected bishop of Radauti, where he printed a Slavic-Romanian Liturgy and set up a school for learning Slavonic, Greek and Romanian languages.

After only five years, his worthiness and zeal were decisive for his move to the seat of Metropolitan of Moldova, in Iasi.  Between 1750 and 1760 he carried out an intense pastoral and social activity, promoting the Romanian printing and watching over the translation of books useful to the soul.  Succeeding in opening a printing house, in 10 years he printed 15 religious service and teaching books in Romanian, which were used in churches and monasteries in all lands inhabited by Romanians.

The concern of Saint Iacob Putneanul for the Romanians from Transylvania, which were threatened to be forced to renounce their ancestral faith, was manifested both by printing books in defense of the true faith, which is the Orthodox faith, and by ordaining priests and sending anti-Masses in parishes devoid of pastors in Maramures and  in the land of Cluj.

St. Iacob decried the ignorance of the Romanian people from Transylvania, because, as he put it, "from the raising of children, as from a good or bad root, all life flows."  That is why he set up schools and printed textbooks and service books, giving birth to the first Romanian Alphabet Book, (Bucvar) and setting up, for the children of Putna village, the first rural elementary school in Moldova.  He ordered the translation of the Lives of the Saints, which are true textbooks in which any man, of any age, nature and condition, can find a model of life, but during his pastorate only the first 6 of the 12 volumes were translated.

In addition to caring for the Putna Monastery and its settlements, Saint Iacob also helped other monasteries and churches, such as the Doljesti Monastery, the Church of St. Dumitru in Suceava, the Episcopal Cathedral in Suceava and the Metropolitan Cathedral in Iasi and Spiritual Hospital in Manast  from Iasi and others.

During the reign of the Phanariots, (Greek landlords imposed to administrate the Romanian principalities for the benefit of the ottoman sultan),  he intervened, together with the other hierarchs of the country, to eliminate some forms of oppression (the abolition of the neighborhood in 1749) and some burdensome bureaus (the abolition of the boathouse in 1756), first of all the cow-growing (in 1757), tying  with a curse on the lords of the country not to return to them.
Being a peacemaker and protector of the people, the Hierarch Iacob asked, in 1758, the Tatarians  Khan to stop the plundering of Moldova, and the next year calmed an uprising of the people, imposing prince to meet some requirements to pacify the country.  He rebuked some leaders often in those years, and because of that, finally, he was forced to leave the Metropolitan chair in 1760, unwilling to allow the imposition of the taxes burden again.

Spending the last part of his life in the monastery, Saint Iacob continued to act  for the strengtening of the Putna Monastery. In this way, the Putna Monastery (initially settled by Stefan cel Mare and Saint between 1466-1469), was strengthening it's spiritually and materially dimensions.  Thus, it has become one of the pillars of Romanian Orthodoxy in the difficult times that would come with kidnapping Bukovina by the scummy Habsburg Empire in 1775.

In his retreat to the Monastery,  St. Iacob found an opportunity to deepen the prayer purifying and enlightening soul.  He said this word of a prayer: "Divine prayer, bringing the light of Christ into our souls and dispel the darkness from it as the darkness injures the soul itself. So, the soul becomes much brighter than the sun. In reality it is known that, he, who speaks with God, is above death and decay ".

Feeling near the end of his life, after the Easter of 1778, he went to the Hermitage of  Putna and received great gesture by having  his hair cut from his confessor, Saint Pious Nathan, taking the name of Eftimie. After four days, on May 15, 1778, he passed in peace towards Christ the Lord.  He was buried in his Monastery at Putna under the porch as a new founder of Putna Monastery.

Diligently and with dignity carrying the cross of serving as a bishop, and with gentleness and humility the one being persecuted for righteousness' sake, sacrificing himself for the people entrusted to him for shepherding Saint Iacob, who devoted his entire life to the service of the Church, and to the people's enlightenment by school and printing press, defending the wronged and leading souls to salvation, remaining faithful in people's memory as "the poor and humble shepherd who lived a holy life."

Therefore, on the occasion of 550 years since the foundation of Putna Monastery, the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church held its meeting from the 6th to 7th of June 2016, passing Hierarch Iacob Putneanul among Saints feast day on May 15th, on its passage into eternity.
