Russia announced it is ready to withstand any set of sanctions against its people and economy. The West can probably deploy THAAD and whatever right in the Ukraine. Just let the oligarchs keep their wealth. Putin couldn't care less about the state, he is all about making the rich richer.

I think they should stop using the term "red lines" because the West knows they are willing to swallow anything just to avoid a real war with the US.

Russia looks very weak now, Id hate to think what will happen to the country when the oil and gas run out.

This post is not true. It is false.

Slowly the focus is moving away from Ukraine. It looks like Russia is preparing its forces for a much wider operation in Europe. Putting troops near Ukraine is a strategic move, rather than an invasion force. Boots on the ground is not excluded, but a large scale land invasion is not even required.

Russia's aim is to push NATO back and create a buffer zone. Expect cyber warfare, massive air raids until key elements are destroyed. This will give a clear message to the west Russia is not interested in taking land, but just doesn't tolerate NATO at its border. Boots on the ground is not economical and Russia doesn't have the means to fight a long conventional war with NATO.

After key elements are destroyed, it depends all on the response of the west how ugly it is going to be. Russia will use the buffer zone to deploy some forces, knowing NATO will retaliate. It is a smart strategy: Russia 'allows' NATO to retaliate, but by having a buffer there is need to attack the mainland of Russia. The risk of an all out nuclear war is too risky. It's beneficial for both: Russia achieved it's goal by having NATO infrastructure destroyed near its border and NATO doesn't lose face because they can claim they pushed the Russians back. After that negotiations will start and peace deal can be reached.

Ukraine is finished. Pre-emptive strike by Russia likely inevitable. Blood will be spilled on this one, unlike Crimea. Sure hope not; but I don't see any way around it.

Let's say the essential condition of non-dispute territory would be ignored, NATO admission must be unanimous.
Saying that means all NATO members agreed to it which is not true.
Hungary will never agree to Ukraine joining NATO as is since it has territory illegally occupied by Ukraine with a significant number of Hungarians for which already emitted passports - there was a scandal about it a few years ago.
Romania has northern Bucovina, southern Moldavia occupied by Ukraine, Serpent Island etc.
Romanian and Hungarian populations in Ukraine are under forced assimilation as well after keeping its identity under the USSR communist regime.
These are territories that Ukraine did not have when it joined USSR but got with them.

No way these countries would accept Ukraine as is in NATO.
