They have to deter theft some way. Sucks though. At least you can get candy and it hasn’t been taken by thugs.

Oddly when I was in the UK 6 years ago if you wanted gas or anything like cigarettes from a gas station at night you had to prepay at a window and they would slide out your items into a 2 way bin/dispenser...this from the country that also has pay as you go and prepaid electricity cards that you insert into your house meter...which is 4x the rate of monthly metered/billed service.

AS I was "foreign" they would not give me regular monthly billed service until I paid an OBSCENE deposit but I see how they really do everything to keep poor people poor...and have everything under lock and key at night.

Okay so clerks and stores don't get robbed..BUT the customers do as soon as they leave.
