Living Off-Grid on a Tiny House Homestead for 6 Years

Ariel has been homesteading and living off-grid in a 24'x8' tiny house for 6 years! She grows, forages and preserves as much of her own food as possible, she cuts her own fire wood, carries her own water, generates electricity with solar, and cooks with propane. She is a passionate backpacker and wildlife photographer who works part-time on a ranch in exchange for a place to park her small home, and she also works a variety of jobs to earn money, although her expenses are very low since she isn't paying rent, and since she managed to pay off the tiny house several years ago.

Woman Living Off-Grid in Her Tiny House in Northern Canada

Carole Lyne Robin is an impressive and inspiring woman and we love that she has designed her life around what is most important to her. She's a freelance photographer who helped build her own tiny house so that she could afford to live where she wants (off-grid in the bush!) and spend more time with the people and projects she loves.

When she's not taking photographs, she's volunteering as a farm hand on a reindeer ranch, taking courses on how to tan hides in the traditional Cree way, spending quality time with her parents, friends, and extended family, crafting beautiful items, and connecting with the outdoors where she canoes, fishes, hunts, and hikes.

Carole has been living in her tiny home for over 2 years in a rural area in Northern Ontario. She has a solar power system to provide electricity from April to October, and from November to March she uses a generator. She uses propane for her stove, hot water, heat, and for her washer/dryer.

Her tiny home is beautifully decorated and has many amenities, including a soaker bathtub, a full-size washer and dryer, a 4-burner stove, 2 lofts, a cat walk ramp so her cat can access the loft, and a full-sized closet with loads of storage space. We think you'll love touring this tiny house!

We are thrilled to be featuring Rob on our channel, and we learned so much from him just with this one video collaboration. In addition to living in his tiny home, he's figuring out how to create his own cooking fuel using a biodigester, he's growing his own toilet paper, and he even makes his own sea salt.

He built the tiny house in the backyard of someone who was looking to live more sustainably. In exchange for a place to build the home, he created a rainwater collection system, an extensive garden on the front lawn, a bio digester and composting system, and more.

Obviously, we can't all live like Rob is doing in this video (although it does look like a healthy, simple, and rewarding lifestyle), but we can get inspired to make positive changes in our own lives. Maybe start composting or eating more fresh food, creating less garbage, riding our bikes more, etc. That's what we're inspired to do after working on this video with him :)

Living in a Compact 200 ft² Tiny House with Stunning Exterior & Interior Design

Zach & Leala designed this unique and beautiful 24-foot long tiny house and built it from paycheque to paycheque, as well as with gifts of time and materials from family and friends. Their dream tiny house has an efficient u-shaped kitchen, a living room with a real couch and loads of storage, a bathroom with a clawfoot tub and a combo washer-dryer, a private loft sleeping space, an open-concept tv lounge loft, and a storage staircase that makes the bed accessible for their two dogs!

The 200 square foot tiny home on wheels is sitting on a 4-foot tall platform because it's currently parked in a floodplain. The deck gives them loads of extra outdoor living space and it's nicely shaded with a large sloping metal overhang.

The house is plugged onto the grid for electricity and water, and they also have propane for their stove and water heater. It cost them approximately $40,000 CAD to build the house, including the appliances but not including the deck and the overhang.

I guess that depends on the population density where you are.
most areas of the world have no people.. so there is a lot of room to spread out and you are making a HUGE assumption that city dwellers are

1) smart enough to flee the city
2) have enough weaponry and a method of transportation to get them way into the hinterlands without being attacked and robbed
3) The skills to build anything that might serve as shelter, without the local peppers attacking and robbing them


During the Hurricane in NYC the city dwellers didn't know how to make a toilet flush or how to dig a hole to crap in so they crapped int he building stairwells.

Off grid cabin tiny home tour 12'x16'

sorry luv.. our foundation in cabin is with sauna tubes buried 3 feet deep and then chains from them to the foundation of our cabin. There are no photos of our cabin in this thread. But thanks for the frost heave info for those who aren't aware of this type of potential problem in snow country.

I remember that. Disgusting. They could have lined a waste basket with a plastic bag and used the for #2. Shower could have been used for #1.

Just think how the future Sesame Street can be used to train little ones in prepping.
