What is the worst Christmas gift your employer gave you ?

Nothing. The continued ability to keep getting my paycheck. First world problems.

I once worked for a plumber as an assistant, and we had to do an emergency job on December 25th, 1988. It was a "leaky faucet". I went in and plugged the leak with some TEFLON tape. This was probably one of the worst gifts I got from an employer. I had to work on Christmas day and when I was done, there was only 3 hours left until Midnight Express.

So I ordered an Espresso, put my feet up on a desk, and stared at a wall full of things. Then the wall started burning without flames. It was DARK FIRE.

No money bonus and that has been pretty much the theme for any employer I had. I can't blame them though - they pay me enough every two weeks.

I had an employer that sent me a $500 gift card…

But the card was only good for me to donate to somebody in a third world country who needs money to start a small business.

That was okay…. But they included the $500 in my compensation.

Right after they sent out the w-4s…. They sent an apology saying that they could amend our tax statement and remove the $500 and they would assume the tax liability. Then they sent another one saying they couldn’t do that. Then after I filed my taxes, they sent out an amended w-4 anyway…. That required me to pay to file an amended tax statement…. Which ended up having no impact on my taxes anyway.

It was the gift, that wasn’t, that kept on taking.

That was not the only issue with that consulting company… so I got out soon after that.

If it's a "gift" - there was no obligation to give it, and hence there should be no expectations upon it.

Receive it with gratitude whatever it is (unless it's herpes - like the other poster said they got...then maybe not so much).
