I’ve got a relative there who says the government says it’s because they don’t know enough about Omicron and they don’t have enough boosters (socialized medicin for ya)

They’ve had a 5 pm shutdown for about a week already, and schools went to virtual already this week too

They already celebrated Sinterklass, which is the Santa & presents part of winter holidays. Christmas is a religious celebration snd school/work holiday, but everyone’s already done the gift-giving thing

A hard lockdown will apply in the Netherlands from 05:00 tomorrow (19th) morning. The new measures will remain in force until 14 January.

*Only essential shops such as supermarkets and pharmacies will remain open.
*The catering industry, non-essential shops and the sports and culture sector will close again. Professional sports competitions are allowed to continue without an audience, just like now. Pickup at shops and catering would remain possible.
*All non-medical contact professions, such as hairdressers and beauticians, are closed
*Visitors/Guests: The group size outside is reduced to a maximum of 2 people. A maximum of 2 visitors may also be received inside. On Christmas eve, day and Boxing day and new years there is a maximum of 4 visitors.
*Education and out-of-school care are physically closed until at least 9 January. There are some exceptions. On January 3, the cabinet will decide on education from January 10.
*All indoor sports locations are closed (with the exception of swimming lessons). Outdoor sports venues remain open for all ages between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m.

No problems for me but childsplay, in the past I had been living/training for 9 years in my own total Lockdown, I lived with internet only and do/ordered everything online and I'd never put a step outside the frontdoor, only opened it for receiving the groceries/packets etc.
And I trained/survived fasting on tap-water only for 1 month, so I'm prepared for this tiranny!
