La Palma - Canary & Azores Island Updates -

The crust somewhere, which is floating on the mantle, which has more density, is pushed under into the mantle somewhere on a subducting fault. Like an upside down river, it melts and comes back up under the Canaries, snaking it way to the surface. It's not one pot, it's snakes and streams of snakes, pooling here and there. Like water flowing down but upside down.

I can see Teide from here in South Tenerife (it's dark now).

We just had calima. Now skies are clear.

La Palma had an odd sort of back beat going on from 2-5am.

I'd take it little look further up the mid Atlantic ridge, Southwest Iceland is rocking right now! Last big swarm up there had the whole northern ridge twitching...

So with all that's going on in Iceland, the Canaries monitoring network goes offline.

I wondered if activity was going to kick up after the last Northern Atlantic quake since it was at 80 km. There usually much shallower.

I had some time on my hands and was just surfing around. I found this article which i thought was interesting.

It puts last years eruption in perspective to other volcanoes. It also explains that the lava was runny & that's why it traveled so far.

Gotta love the last paragraph.

"Right now, Cumbre Viejo on La Palma is relatively quiet as the eruption was declared over in December 2021. There have been occasional earthquake swarms and the ground underneath parts of the new cone are still glowing with the heat of the cooling lava. Maybe La Palma will go back to sleep for 50 years like it did after the 1971 eruption. Maybe it will start erupting again this year. We don't know (and anyone who says otherwise is selling something). Volcanologists will just keep on monitoring the volcano for signs of potential unrest on this island volcano in the Atlantic."

GLPers right again predicted eruption ! And it took 3-4 days for lava to appear since swarm started! Faster than anything I've seen! Not even our Wolcano was that fast :)

I've seen some pretty impressive videos of Iceland lava flowing. I guess it's just a different composition.

That's pretty deep something is on the move..

Yeah I noticed that. The last Northern mid was 80 km. They usually only about 10.

Maybe bold prediction but I believe we will see increased uptick of activity somewhere in Canary Islands and then eruption this year .It could be La Palma or Tenerife.Similarites to last year eruption in Iceland are unquestionable .Iceland and Canaries have connection between them

Yeah, they are both right along that ridge. Gran Canaria had an uptick today.

It's pretty quiet underneath the islands and Tenerife right now. The occasional rumble is usually a car opening or closing it's SUV door outside!
