Quick note, the quakes under Lake Taupo (supervolcano) continue. The scientists there are saying its normal and have left the warning level at the lowest, 1.

This is all well and good. However the quakes at 5km deep have now for the first time been joined by three quakes at less than 5km in the range 4-5km. I still predict a chance of an eruption in the next month unless something changes

I try to make this page a one stop place. That poster could go to the quake, seismic, twitter & all the other places I look. I imagine that would be a lot more scrolling.


Thanks for reminding me of Taupo. I had a Volcano Discovery page up for quakes there. My laptop crashed and I didn't remember all the tabs I had open. That could really be a big deal!

The new road over the lava had been closed for the whole day because of too much vapor. We haven't had so much rain for ages and I don't think it will end soon. A lot of lightning and thunder too yesterday. The island needed this so actually a positive happening for us.

Canaria is beautiful, and a very odd geographic area indeed.

If you scroll down a ways you can see this cloud (lenticular type) formation beginning.

This is what makes this thread so great to have ongoing as it shows up on the main page from time to time. Also, for those of us who do keep track of places like USGS or just earth/space science goings on in general. Yet, another place for these tidbits of learning to take place.

Keep doing what your doing op, I'm absolutely sure I'm not the only one that checks in on this thread daily, ignor the rifraf that that come to spoil thing, back to business, I've noticed a shallowing of the earthquakes in the Canaries, especially La Palma, can anyone else confirm this?

Yes, I have in the past few days. I not sure what it means. I know very deep quakes could mean magma is moving.

There haven't been many antipode quakes the last few days. The seismic activity has been pretty calm, too.

The storm in Bear's video could account for some of the uptick in seismic activity, but so far, it's not decreasing.

Then I saw this quake in the Solomon Islands. I'll try & look back, but it seems like there was an uptick after the last quakes in the Solomon Islands. Hmmm.

The actual antipode is farther south than the Canaries, below Cabo Verde.
