I have some pretty strong feelings about what happened to that old man, but I’ll save my rhetoric and instead offer some commentary on getting attacked by an “unarmed” person. The proper response in that scenario is a touchy subject for some people- butthurt and hoplophobia abound.

When I was younger, let’s just say that I really didn’t put that much thought into it. Now? My health is far too fragile for fistfighting at this stage of my life. I’m not a loudmouth, an aggressive macho-man, I don’t go instigating fights or looking for trouble- I actually do my best to avoid conflict…when I can do so without sacrificing morality or dignity. That is, up until outright rudeness, malicious intent or psychopathic behaviors are observed. I truly prefer peace, until lines are crossed and “peace” becomes an amoral or undignified pursuit.

Aside from severe health problems on my end, there is the often overlooked fact that Hands and Feet have always been deadly weapons. Don’t believe me? Look at Uniform Crime Statistics. They are classified and grouped within the subcategory “Personal Weapons.” Real life isn’t like the stupid Hollywood movies where heroes receive punches and kicks to the head for 20 minutes…and then walk away perfectly fine, with only a little trickle of blood from the lip. Turn that stupid fucking shit off and grow the fuck up, seriously, get some exposure to reality. Getting hit in the wrong vulnerable anatomical location means either death, disfigurement, serious injury, brain damage or permanent disability. In fact, I’d wager that Blunt Force Trauma by way of Hands and Feet have actually killed more people throughout human history than firearms ever could. They still kill people every single year, and yes, they are deadly as fuck. Even more so when deployed against someone like me with serious health problems. Does it ALWAYS mean death? No. But nothing gives anyone that right to gamble with your fucking life and health- punching and kicking you- over petty childish bullshit. See, adults have a thing called “Impulse Control.”

“Might Does NOT Make Right.” Being physically strong and healthy doesn’t give someone the right to beat the fuck out of others who aren’t, utilizing what is potentially Lethal Force to them and then walk away from it feeling justified, as if their actions were harmless.

So…yeah…you can probably guess, if I end up the target of an unprovoked violent attack like that, I will most certainly “play for keeps.”

My advice?

Don’t bring muscle-mass to a gunfight.

All that vascularity will just help the blood volume drain more quickly.

Same with blades. Even more so, actually, when you consider the grotesque and often irreparable sort of wound channels that blades engineered for penetration induce. And those are the only sort I’ve ever carried. Not anything made for prying, chopping or camp chores. I prefer my blades fixed and the profile thereof slender, sharp enough to cut God, extremely pointy and long. I never use a fighting/defensive blade for utility.

It’s not my fault if someone doesn’t choose the most efficient form of Lethal Force to attack me with. Innumerable victims have been beaten to death by “unarmed” attackers.

Besides: If I passively allowed a physical attacker to render me unconscious or incapacitated in some misguidedly cuckish effort to be “fair,” this psychotic individual would then have control over the firearm carried on my defunct body. Worse still, my family would at that point be at the mercy of the same individual, or individuals, who made an unprovoked attack on me…except they would then be armed with a FiveseveN, 40+ rounds of 5.7x28mm and a fixed blade.

Should I feel guilty for giving myself a technological advantage over a physically stronger and healthier attacker that is intent on pounding my skull to a bloody pulp? Without my weapon, the advantage belongs to them- so it was never “fair” to begin with. The “Fair Fight” is an imaginary concept that belongs only in movies and storybooks, anyway. Humans are tool users and weapons are a part of our DNA. If someone is going to make a habit of launching life-threatening unprovoked attacks because they can’t control their rage- or attempts at murdering another human via primitive Blunt Force Trauma- then maybe they should evolve. Maybe learn to use those opposable thumbs and become a part of the 21st Century.

Does this mean you won’t get charged with Murder for shooting an “unarmed” attacker? Hell no. Especially in this day and age. The System is looking to make examples out of gun owners. That’s why it’s better to avoid trouble in the first place. Stay far from conflict and don’t start shit with strangers. It’s also good to have “less-lethal” weapons available to use. The X26 Projectile Tasers (not sure what the newer model number is called) are pretty damn effective. It’s funny to watch grown men lose control of their bladders while they ride the lightning. It’s a useful tool, an intermediate force weapon. So is a high-purity, high-grade Pepperspray…just make sure it doesn’t blow back on you.

Nobody wants to kill another human being. Most of us have a deep respect for human life. Which is why we avoid any circumstances that may lead to violence or the loss of life, where possible. But at the same time, nobody wants to let some raging unhinged psycho take their life or cause them permanent disability, either.

My neighbor is a veteran who verbally attacks me when he gets the chance even though he is very ill from the vaccine or covid and can't get out of bed most days. He hates everyone and everything but his wife who is abused. I've heard her pleading with him.

That's when you pull your pistol and shoot the unhinged prick for hitting you. You have no idea what else this insane and unreasonable douche is going to do. As soon as he went to hit/attack you, that was your moment to end the threat he posed to your life and well-being.

There are shitbags from all walks of life.

No matter what career field you pick from a hat, pick any one, there are going to be a certain percentage of people involved (or previously involved) with that career field across the whole Country who are just terrible human beings that also match the same description you gave.

I’ve known more Veterans who sacrificed literally everything they had to give for what they believed in, including the best years of their lives and watching their children grow up. Good men and women who willingly suffered for what they saw as a higher cause. Who still suffer but struggle to retain normalcy and stability for their loved ones.

Louisiana doesn't have constitutional concealed carry, you have to have a CCW permit to carry concealed, open carry is OK. All states should have constitutional concealed carry it's not like the police are there to save you. They're just there to write the report after the bad guy beats you into the ground. No, you don't. YOU have the ability and unalienable right to defend yourself in any way you choose to end the threat to your life. ANY arms, including firearms. NO ONE has the ability to demand you receive any "permission" beforehand.
