How deadly is Omicron? I did a bit of research, but someone better at math please check my numbers. But anyway – this is what I came up with.


What “facts” do we know?

In London as of 12/11/21 there were a total of 1,381,289 Covid active cases.

Of those, 40% are Omicron or 552,515 reported cases.

Of those, 10 are in hospital or 0.0018% of total Omicron infected.

And of those, 1 died or 0.00018% of total Omicron infected.

So for now the mortality rate of Omicron in London is 0.00018

What is the mortality rate of influenza per 100,000? 0.0018%

What is the mortality rate of influenza per 500,000 (the approximate number of Omicron cases in London)? 0.009%

Influenza is about 45 times deadlier than Omicron.

What if the influenza develops into pneumonia?

Mortality rate of influenza + pneumonia per 100,000? 0.0152%

Mortality rate of influenza + pneumonia per 500,000? 0.076

My take away:

Influenza is more than 45 times more deadly than Omicron.

If influenza develops into pneumonia, it is 380 times more deadly than Omicron. So why the panic?

If influenza is that much more deadly than Omicron, based on the reaction from Boris, then we should have been locked down for 6 months every year since 1933 when influenza was first discovered.
