Sounds good to me, no major complaints on the mix. There are certainly things I would do differently, but that falls in the area of subjective taste rather than you doing something objectively wrong. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77978857 The only problem I have with the track, is that it is too repetitive and isn't really "going anywhere". If there were vocals it would add some variation and interest and it might be fine as is. Not amazing, mind you, but fine. But an instrumental track really needs to do more than this to keep up interest. Which makes mea bit sad, actually. I mean, I keep hearing people making hobby music on their computers, and it's almost always the same thing: they slap together a loop and repeat it for x minutes. Done. It's quick and easy to do this, but unfortunately the result is but a cheap imitation of "real" music too. Everytime the exact same thing repeats twice, the song dies a little. Repeat it four times and the listeners start to lose interest. Eight times, and the angels weep. In other words, what's in there actually sounds pretty nice, but there's too little composition/arrangement/performance/production value added to it, so it ends up sounding like a first stab at a demo idea, meant to be developed into something more substantial later. I'd really like to hear what it would develop into in it's "final form", instead of just this. Because it actually sounds like you'd make some good stuff, if you just put in the required amount of effort. Perhaps you are too quick to start mixing and getting the sound right? A tip that would probably help you, is to COMPLETELY ignore mixing and just work on the composition for your next track. I mean, don't put a compressor or reverb or anything on anything, just arrange the music. Only when you feel the composition is done can you get to mixing and making it sound right. This approach moves your focus from fiddling to get the perfect sound, to composition and arrangement. And then there's actually something there worth fiddling with later. Try it. And keep us informed on the result! Wow! Thank you for your thorough analysis! I'll definitely try not playing around with the actual sounds and just focus on the composition/arrangemnt first. I do get kind of fixated how a particular instrument sounds, rather how the track is progressing. And I appreciate all those who listened and gave their honest opinions. I know I don't comment much on these threads I create, but I do read and reread and reread all the replies, positive or negative. I appreciate the time invested in reviewing and critiquing this hobby of mine. Brawndo's got electrolytes. |
