The higher prices will also allow the company to cope with high merchandise cost increases as well as higher operating costs, such as wages, it said. Quoting: Coastie Patriot “(Dollar Tree) believes this is the appropriate time to shift away from the constraints of the $1.00 price point in order to continue offering extreme value to customers,” the company said in a statement. Dollar Tree was one of the last true “dollar stores” after most of its competition had moved away from that price point. The company, which is based in Chesapeake, Virginia, said in September it was testing the higher prices at select stores. On Tuesday, it said it will introduce the new price point in more than 2,000 additional Dollar Tree stores in December and complete the rollout to all its stores by early next year. The company has about 8,000 Dollar Tree stores. [link to www.theepochtimes.com (secure)] Sheet, by march it will be the tree fiddy store. refraktor |

The owner of a local chain just bought a new Acura NSX for $180,000. They are now going to make roughly %25 more profit, and that 25 cents is probably all profit. Quoting: 772STi2 A lot of their items right now are not worth $1. Adding 25% to them will just make people reconsider. It's a dangerous game they play. It's like the 99 cent menu at Wendy's. Once that was over, I never went back. I will be frequenting them much less and definately stop buying nondiscretionary items. The more they raise prices, the more I abandon them. |

It's still a buck here, but they only have crap items out...not the good deals for a dollar stuff. Lots of empty shelves where the good stuff used to be. So I think they are probably not going to put the nicer stuff out until they raise the price. So they are putting out the stuff they couldn't unload earlier. I've been to 3 DTs in the area over the last few days. They all seem to be doing that. They are really pushing the Xmas stuff which has spilled over into empty shelves as it'll be all off the shelves on Dec 26. |
