Amazon still a holdout among Washington employers as federal vaccine deadline approaches

Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) has yet to require that employees be vaccinated from Covid-19, putting the company almost alone among Washington state's largest employers.

Its holdout status remains despite the federal government having set a Jan. 4 deadline for employees of companies with more than 100 people to be fully vaccinated or test weekly for the coronavirus. After the Biden administration announced the policy in September, the Boeing Co., another holdout, said in October that it would require employees to show proof of vaccination by Dec. 8 or face termination.

Out of the 10 largest employers in Washington, three haven't issued vaccination requirements, including Amazon, the state's biggest employer. The other two are Costco Wholesale Corp. and Albertsons Cos. The state's seventh-largest employer, Walmart Inc., requires corporate employees and traveling managers to be vaccinated, but not store or warehouse employees.
