To be honest wars were never really all that popular, and people have been running from them for a while now...
I guarantee the same would happen, if the USA enacted a draft. Plenty of people don't see any reason as to why they'd need to sacrifice themselves for something/someone. It doesn't even account for how weak willed never generations are.
Personally I have no issues going to war, but I need a really good reason to do so. A politician saying I have to, isn't one of them though.

Two high-ranking Russian lawmakers on Sunday criticized those carrying out Russian President Vladimir Putin’s move last week to draw up some 300,000 reservists to fight in Ukraine.


Valentina Matviyenko, who chairs Russia’s upper legislative chamber the Federation Council, wrote in a T_legram post that she was aware of men who are ineligible to fight in the war getting called up to serve, according to Reuters.

“Such excesses are absolutely unacceptable,” said Matviyenko, a close Putin ally. “I consider it absolutely right that they are triggering a sharp reaction in society.”

Another Putin ally, Vyacheslav Volodin, the Speaker of Russia’s lower chamber the State Duma, said he was also receiving complaints and that “if mistake is made, it is necessary to correct it.”

Putin is finally facing some real opposition to his authoritarian rule.

Russia probably seemed to be moving in slow motion before 1917, too.

As much as I’d like to see Putin gone, whose to say the next guy wouldn’t be worse

If Patrushev or someone like him...could be worse.


But it's like a fever...this must reach its crisis before it can be over.

Projections on real data - Italy.

Confirming exit polls with small internal variations.
Neat majority both in Camera dei Deputati (roughly the Low Chamber, or House for the USA) and Senato (the High one).

Fratelli d'Italia neatly dominant in the center-right coalition, so called because the Forza Italia component in "just center", being a member of the Popular group in the EU.

The Lega (Salvini), which is the national extensions of the former Lega Nord (North Autonomy / scissionist force) is qualifies as "right", but "populist" is more appropriate.
It is well under 10%, which is the psycological threshold to save its current leader, who will be quite ousted very fast.

There are small pocket of "nostalgic fascists" in FdI, but the umbilical cord has been cut many years ago.

There is no doubt that under Giorgia Merloni Atlantism and pro Ukraine positions (including sending weapons) will be at least as firm as the ones of Mr. Draghi.
On this theme her line is Polish, not Hungarian.

If Italians want to support the Ukraine war effort, that is up to them, in my opinion.

If Italy swung to obstructing the effort to help the Ukrainians defend themselves...that would be quite another matter entirely.


I'm not fond at all of Mr. Berlusconi -- for many reasons. (More than that.)

When the deadline passes, will Kyiv forces on the wrong side of 'the border' be given any time to back-up before Russia is taking out boardrooms in Kyiv and Brussels? (planning centers)
Kyiv would then tell them to back up or surrender.
Will Russia create a buffer between their border and the 'big river'. 'Occupies Territory' where they have no utility expenses and profits from exports are given to the people, rather than to the occupying Govt like Israel does with the Golan Heights. One is a war crime, the other way is not.

Belarus should hold a referendum and rejoin Russia as well, then secure a land bridge to 'their Outpost'.
