If the blacks have gathered on one side of a line, and the whites have gathered on the other side of a line, it makes sense that that line divides neighborhoods and a road should go there, rather than (as the lefties also complain) going thru the middle of a neighborhood.

I was born and raised in Syracuse NY and got the hell out of there few years ago but they have been on and on about this with I-81. It’s a major artery it cuts through downtown Syracuse and it’s an elevated highway and it’s “racist” because it divides the city. Which is bull shit the whole city is a shit hole not just one half so but anyway they want to move 81 to go around the city now basically redirect traffic up 481 and tear out the overpass. But what’s particularly amusing about this idea is it will literally choke the city into poverty. No more through traffic. No more business. It’s not rocket science. No one is going to get off the highway fight miles and miles of traffic lights to get to the stupid mall or local restaurants- they are gonna stay on the highway and get off at the next city be it Watertown or Cortland depending on direction of travel. They are literally shooting them selves in the foot and think it’s a huge victory for the underprivileged city dwellers when in fact the whole city is going to shrivel up and die because of this idiotic bureaucracy. But it will be fun to watch from Florida.

Sorry I'm against the left, but this point is correct. They are right. Infrastructure is often designed to decimate black neighborhoods and to move people out. Citys that are a good example of once grand and beautiful victorian black neighborhoods decimated by freeways are Knoxville TN, Tampa FL, Birmingham AL, and many other cities.

Racism may not be systemic in our system but it does exist, and the building of the freeways that exist today were built by people who didn't like or respect black communities.

When you always disagree with a group even when they are correct, it makes you look dumb. Some points the left make are correct. Many blacks lost their homes and properties via eminent domain over the decades to build freeways and were not compensated.

Anywhere young whites come into gentrify also threatens black and low income communities.
Over the Rhine in Cincinnati is one of the best preserved Victorian neighborhoods anywhere. It's gentrified now, it costs more to live in the hood than the suburbs. This is another way young rich whites appropriate formerly low income neighborhoods and push people out eventually with high taxes, maintenance standards, and cultural abandonment ( not keeping original businesses, etc).

Cincinnati has been run by black people for decades. The guy that profited by having a Trolley car run though the Over the Rhine neighborhood, was named Mallory. He was the mayor, he was a black guy, and he and his black friends bought up all the property along the line for years and then shit away a billion dollars in public money to build a trolley line that was supposed to 'revitalize' that neighborhood.

Instead no one ever used it. but Mallory turned around and sold all the property to the white people who bought it up at a huge profit for Mallory's black crew. Now the trolley line no longer charges a fee (and is not self-sustaining as Mallory claimed it would be).

The Over the Rhine neighborhood is now shitting away public funds every year, since the city leaders are claiming that the cost of running the trolley for free is lower than the cost of shit-canning all that 'investment' for good.

Enterprise that buys up slums and re-builds them is not racism, it is opportunity and wealth creation.

I can't speak for all these southern cities that you claim had some magical beautiful well off black neighborhoods, but I'm sure your bleeding heart is matched with a bleeding brain that is floating in a pool of fake news bullshit.

The fact is that MOST of the roads built in this country were built upon years and years of trails, streets, roads, highways, etc. If anyone ever looks at maps from decades ago, chances are that you will see the road (albeit much smaller) in their same location that they are today.

Unless you live in a planned community that was built within the last 30 years (and those neighborhoods were DESIGNED exclusively for neighborhood interaction), then the layout of the infrastructure was done by engineers and surveyors decades ago...

Does anyone really think these surveyors and engineers were thinking, "gee, how can we keep the Puerto Rican kids out of this neighborhood?"... If you believe that then I have a timeshare in Kabul you might be interested in.

This whole argument is just a convoluted way to push the middle class out of the suburbs and into densely populated centers.

Note to Pete Butt-gig... if you want to act like the smartest guy in the room just make sure you actually 'are' the smartest guy in the room.
