The company announced Monday that it would invest $100 million in a new facility in LaGrange, Georgia, southwest of Atlanta, and hire 856 people over five years. Remington, which was founded in 1816 in Ilion, was bought out of bankruptcy for the second time in June 2020 after being weighed down by lawsuits and retail sales restrictions following the Sandy Hook massacre and other school shootings. Investors doing business as the Roundhill Group purchased the Remington-branded gun-making business, including operations in Ilion, New York, and Lenoir City, Tennessee, for $13 million. Remington, the country's oldest gun maker, began making flintlock rifles in 1816. It swelled into a firearms conglomerate, but faced slumping sales, complaints about quality, and legal pressure over the Sandy Hook school massacre. The current company no longer makes the Bushmaster AR-15 rifles used to kill 20 first-graders and six educators in the Sandy Hook shooting in Connecticut in 2012. Gunmakers have been leaving their traditional home bases in the northeast as laws become more hostile toward guns and moving to more politically welcoming settings in the South and West. 'We are very excited to come to Georgia, a state that not only welcomes business but enthusiastically supports and welcomes companies in the firearms industry,' Remington CEO Ken D´Arcy said in a statement. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp famously pointed a shotgun at another person in a campaign commercial when the Republican was seeking his current office in 2018. You literally cannot buy a Remington without some type of quality control issue. I've owned and shot Remington's all my life. Last 3 guns I bought from them all 3 had major issues. Google "Remington Quality Control" and you will see for yourself. They make absolute junk now, period. Maybe it's done on purpose by FreedomGroup. |

Done Uniroyal did that for 25 years in Mishawaka Indiana, kept just one line running one shift a day. During WW2, Uniroyal invented a miracle rubber product that saved countless lives, called “Self-sealing fuel bladders” for airplanes. Because of this, fuel tanks did not immediately explode when hit by bullets or AA, when exposed to air, the bladder immediately hardened, stopping the leaks. It was a major reason that US Air Forces dominated from 1943 onward, and later in Korea. The process was messy, involved a lot of chemicals, and with huge urgency in wartime. If not mixed properly, the chems involved could become a highly toxic failure. Due to wartime shortages, they couldn’t just truck or rail the stuff off site, so they dumped it into pits underneath the plant, where is sat for almost 60 years, leaching into the St. Joseph River, which supplied power to the plant. It became a Super Fund site after Uniroyal finally went bankrupt, and was bought by the Chinese in 2003. |

I grew up in that area, with roots back to the 1750s. Factories have been moving out since the 1970s, starting when the cost of heating fuel spiked. Dairy farmers have been going out of business too, and recently the area’s cooperative lost a big contract for its milk.
