Rigid actually flows better but takes multiple times longer to fit and requires insulation. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80412375 I’m a builder. It is getting to be a pain in the ass. I think they’re intentionally doing it. Their goal is for everyone to use ductless mini-splits. I think in Washington they’ve already banned natural gas in new construction and I heard Oregon will do it soon. JB |

Rigid ductwork was common back in the 50's, 60's and early 70's. Flex duct is easier to use, hence cheaper to install. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80412375 On house with 20 branch ducts, the difference between hard pipe and flex is huge. It’s going to be a major problem. Guess what happens when every contractor simultaneously switches to hard pipe when the demand and inventory was extremely low up until the last month or so?? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80750453 United States 11/06/2021 08:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I work in heating and air business. We’ve had some supply chain issues the last year and we have always been able to work around it by using an alternate brand, model or part. But that’s all changed in the last 2 weeks. Flexible ductwork in common sizes 5”, 6” and 7” are becoming impossible to get. Something to do with the spiral wire that keeps the flexible duct semi-rigid. If you can get ductwork your can’t build houses. Factory is saying 10 MONTHS on new orders. It’s hard enough selling jobs during off season, now we can’t complete the jobs we sold because there’s no materials. This is bad. Very bad. Quoting: Silenced J Good, maybe we'll learn to recycle materials here instead of depending on others. |
