Taught myself to fly in a lucid dream.
Typically after I enter sleep paralysis I float up to the ceiling and get stuck there, unable to break through the boundaries of my bedroom.

Last night I was able to maintain the dream well enough that I used trial and error to learn how to leave that cube and fly around.

First off, it is a very intuitive process. My logical mind is diminished in this state and I seem to think through feeling, from a deeper place within myself.

Essentially I had to act passively from this deeper place. The key was to ALLOW myself to dissolve through the ceiling. It was as if my dream avatar went out of sync with the dream reality, it essentially became a more subtle density while my consciousness was rooted in the deeper place.

Then came the next challenge, controlling flight. Usually while flying in a dream when I fly it is sloppy. Randomly floating here and there, constantly crashing, etc.

The process was the same. To fine tune flight I had to allow myself to fly where I wanted before I actually went there. It was slow going at first but soon I got the hang of it and could pull off whatever aerial maneuvers I wanted. Direction and speed both worked this way.

I’ll give it a try, however the starting point of the experience is almost always my bed.

I did fly around in outer space quite a bit, I find it easier, probably less fear of crashing up there.

Congrats I do it all the time. Last couple of years I've learned to fly straight up through ceilings and in the stratosphere. Sometimes I shot up into space and through wormholes. It's one of the reasons I enjoy sleeping so much.

Flying in dreams is fun had one few weeks ago. I was aware I was dreaming as I completed my free climb ascent on devils tower as I stood looking out it hit me I'd never do this in the waking world so I must be dreaming I then jumped off and as I started falling took off like superman flying all over at fast speeds was great was sad to wake up from that one

Re: Taught myself to fly in a lucid dream.
All lucid dreams are guided, just like our lives.

I remember my first and last lucid dream as an adult, around the time trying to lucid dream and astral project, but ended up seeing orbs, all of which is witchcraft. I remember sensing a barrier and by intent I push through the black void and I'm immediately walking on a sidewalk near home. I cross the road towards the downtown city area and see the side of the building has arty colors moving, and looking at it realize I'm dreaming. I immediately desire to fly so I jump up and and start floating up but slower than my greatest velocity (which was initially a little disappointing to me) and then the dream ended as I was going up. Did I know how to fly? It was by faith. God knows how I fly.

Re: Taught myself to fly in a lucid dream.
I had this crazy dream where I flew a few days ago. I don't remember how it started, but for some reason I had to walk to the grocery store and I don't know why, but I entered through a side door from the warehouse area. As soon as I walk inside, I make a left turn and in the corner I see a fat old man dressed like the mafia, and he's holding a chain that's attached to a naked woman's neck. They're both just standing there but the girl looks terrified, and I noticed that her entire body and face is cut/scarred like someone ran razor blades on her.

I look away for a second, and when I look back, the old man is gone. He just vanished without a sound and the girl is still standing there terrified. I say to the girl, go he's gone, you can leave. Just walk down the hall and out that door and you'll be free. I turn to head into the grocery store but then I think, I better check on the girl and make sure she makes it out okay. So I turn back around instead and the girl is gone, also vanished and what was just a simple hall with a door was now a labyrinth of hallways and doors. It's like I had been transported to another location. I started to get a feeling of dread in the pit of my stomach, knowing something's not right. I felt like they were watching me, I didn't know if they really had vanished or just turned invisible and were still in the vicinity. In any case, I wasn't going to let them scare me, so I started running through the areas looking for whoever was controlling the illusion and I get to a place where there is a giant, fat demon. I immediately start fighting him with a large sword and guantlets of fire. It didn't affect him much at first, so I began to fly above him raining down thunder bolts from above. I can't tell if I killed him or not, but I know I kicked his ass. Then I woke up shortly after.

Re: Taught myself to fly in a lucid dream.
I remember trying to go through a door and bonking my head. I also learned to push through doors or walls, it feels like walking through a wall of water. I find it’s very hard to stay asleep. If I think too hard about what I want to do then I wake up. If I just try fly around aimlessly and not think I can last a while.

There’s a book that has mind exercises to do this, it makes it very easy. I’ve bought it a few times because I gave it to friends. This is it:

Re: Taught myself to fly in a lucid dream.
Next time you find yourself lucid dreaming, and the dream is about to end, try spinning in circles. Sounds ridiculous, but spinning in circles keeps you in the dream. That is if you remember to do so. Your body will essentially be awake, but you'll stay inside the dream until you're ready to leave. You may awaken more fatigued than normal, but it is a nice experience. I've done it once, it works. But just like anything, there is a counter balance. There is a darkness deep within the human subconscious that far surpasses any darkness here on this Earth. When you find it, or rather, when it finds you... It is best to get out of the dream as soon as possible. The longer you stay, the more it absorbs, and you may find yourself not the same as when you first laid your head down to sleep. I stopped lucid dreaming for this reason. Sensed are heightened in the dream state. Pleasure... as well as pain.

When I was very young I would have dreams of punching in slow motion, when I first started to fly I had to flap my arms and would barely get off the ground. A decade later….now I am literally as fast as a bullet, know the feeling of concrete breaking around my body, know the feeling of the ground ripple around me when I land. I can now teleport as well. Breathe underwater, My latest dream was being able to travel at warp speed

I ran out of gas in my car in my dream last night because in real life I only had 12 miles left this morning. WTF is that shit? I have to have actual gas to dream drive now?

Re: Taught myself to fly in a lucid dream.
Back from work, didn’t expect to see this many responses. Thanks for sharing all the tips and experiences everyone.

I have been having LDs on and off for years. Very few are achieved by realizing it mid-dream. I almost always dive directly into a dream through an episode of sleep paralysis.

Interestingly, in the past when I entered sleep paralysis I would always feel myself sink down into the bed. Often being held down by dark apparitions. It would feel like being under water. Swimming in some sort of void that isn’t really a void but more of a shadowy dream substrate.

Back in 2012 I had one of the most profound lucid dreams of my life and since then instead of sinking down I float up above my bed and bump into the ceiling. I usually need to find an open window or door to get outside and try to fly around. Last night was the first time I was able to just pass through the room itself
