Personally I'd maybe look at Huntsville Alabama. probably a bit safer than Chattanooga unless you know someone there.

In that case 75 to Tifton Ga, through albany up to Columbus Ga, then 280 into Alabama all the way to I 65, straight shot.

But there are a lot of places in between, Dothan Al area for example that should be safe enough. In that case hop off 75 in Valdosta Ga, 221 to Thomasville Ga, then 84 to Dothan Al.

Places I'm suggesting are safer otherwise than tsunami worry. You seem to be looking for populated areas so I suggest those but outskirts of those better. Do plan your trip to start early and end before dark. The creeps come out at night.
