This was 19.5% above the five-year average (2,837 excess deaths).

Deaths were above the five-year average in:

private homes (31.5% above, 1,082 excess deaths)
hospitals (11.1% above, 794 excess deaths)
care homes (27.6% above; 855 excess deaths)
other settings (12.0% above, 106 excess deaths)

The deaths in private homes speak for themselves

Possibly biggest excess I have seen, in absolute and percentage terms, in watching for two years.

For week 2 of 2023, we have a +26% excess in weekly all-cause deaths, relative to the same week in 2015-2019.

Week ending 13-Jan: +26% excess over figures for 2015-2019, for the same week of the year.
-There were 17,381 deaths corresponding to 3,559 excess deaths.
-Deaths due to covid: 654 (of 17,381) and deaths involving covid: 922 (Table 3).
-There is a 'greater than 2 Standard Deviation' 24% excess in the 45-64yo age-group.
-There is a 'greater than 2 Standard Deviation' 31% excess in the 75-84yo age-group.

-All age-groups 1yo-and-over showed excess deaths. (Note, the 'bivalent booster' was restricted mainly to over 50's in the UK)

-Deaths at home: 4,515 (+32% excess over the five year average for the same week of 3,433) (Table 10)

at the rate of increase, where will it b by fall? 50% conservatively? at what % does it become apparent to the public? at what % does it begin to have an impact on services?

my thinking is by spring the deaths are high enuf that the public realizes it ain't normal. they start to wake up. by fall, ppl will feel the effects directly.

All due respect, JAZZ but the figures for 'excess' take into account the holidays;

For example:

Week 51 (ending 23 Dec.) averaged 11,500 deaths in 2015-19.
Last year it was 14,530.

Week 52: average 7,954... Noticably lower because the average takes the holidays into account. We saw 9,517 deaths that week in 2022.

Now the new year, still excesses above the average of 23% and 26% just reported.

So, 'corrections from the holidays' simply does not apply to this figure. The figure already includes it.
