It changed behavior again and just sits there popping and cracking shallow and deep generating dozens of small quakes. A average of 10 quakes a hour and highly active. It's not a prediction, it's a given there will be a event. And it look like a major quake is building on the rift at Gibraltar. The question becomes; are there "plates" moving? Is tectonic movement a viable hypothesis OR is it a misnomer? Could our planet actually be one continent (one land mass) underneath a lot of water? Volcanoes make it interesting. Could the "plate boundaries" actually be the expansion boundaries?? It would make sense that these expansion boundaries would be the weakest places for magma to make its way UP. *could some of our intercontinental mountain ranges be sedimentary deposits from yuuge rolling tsunami's associated with an ancient solar mini-nova? |

You may find this site interesting, it locates all the subduction slabs at depths. I had no idea the slabs can remain solid and suspended! Check the Tomography viewer, so many slabs! [link to www.atlas-of-the-underworld.org] Some slabs 'melt' but others are suspended in the mantle at different angles. This is what it says : "The Gibraltar anomaly (Figure A34a) is located in the upper mantle below the Alboran Sea. Its base is resting on the 660 km discontinuity, and it is still connected to Atlantic crust in the west, is dipping eastwards and is interpreted as subducted lithosphere." Could this be a reason for the activity there as one end is suspended down and east and the other is connected to the crust on the west?  |
