Had covid in January 2020 and I think I might have brain damage, possibly permanent. Smell & taste issues STILL
Background
Thread: I had severe covid in January 2020. The freakiest, scariest symptom for me was

21 months ago since my initial infection. My sense of taste and smell is still not back to normal.

It's not so much that I can't taste, I can... but things taste different. Also, I used to really enjoy fruits and vegetables, would crave them... ate 90% vegetarian before I got sick... now I don't seem to crave anything anymore, and I don't get excited about having a big salad... they're ok, but not like before.

Now my sense of smell is still mostly there but it's weird. My husband and I both have issues with phantom bad smells. Usually ammonia, like cat urine... or sulfur, like rotten eggs. It's really strong when it happens but then it disappears.

Will my taste and smell ever return to normal? If this is permanent brain damage, what's my recourse, who do I sue?

I had the Covid in May 2020. Some of my taste and smell is back, but it isn't the same. I can't eat the same foods I used to eat. Fragrances I used to love smell rancid to me now. I believe there is irreparable damage.

when I would catch the flu, I would drink lots and lots of grapefruit juice. its the only time I can stand the taste.

Back in the 90s when I was still young and gullible, I was prescribed Paxil... was very bad and I stopped taking it but had terrible brain zaps for about 6 months. At the time I was worried they were permanent but thankfully they're gone.

21 months now with the smell and taste issues, I'm a little worried.

In case you're wondering my household is unvaccinated

Hubby had a mild case and mine was severe but we both have the same issues. It's starting to really piss me off

Most everyone I know that had covid , including myself , has the same issue. The other issue I noticed is I crave sugar even though I don't really enjoy eating it because of the taste issue, very strange. I had the willpower at 1 time to stay away from sugar and used to follow a very tight diet and that is went to hell since I had covid

I agree.

Sorry you got sick, Stella.

I had a terrible flu in 2017--actually came down with it on New Year's day. I lost 30 lbs (I don't have any extra to begin with) and it took me a good 6 months to get over it. I really almost died. I never went to a doctor or the hospital. Good thing!

I must have lost my sense of taste because I lost my appetite. There was no "covid" back then.

Did someone tell you you had it, or did you have a fake PCR nose jab?

We can convince ourselves of things that aren’t true. You didn’t have a taste test before and then after Covid. So this is just your subjective opinion. Having heard about the sense of taste issue you may just be imagining it has lasted this long. That is just something we do as humans. Our minds our powerful. I imagine issues like that myself.

Our sense of taste and smell can change over time. And, as we age, both get less discriminating.

But, it could also be a real problem you are experiencing. If so, I am sorry. You might want to try not worrying about it and hoping it fixes itself. Often times problems will just resolve for reasons we don’t understand.

Dam...that must fucking suck.

There's places around where they discuss "long covid" and it's effects, could always have a search and see what others have found to be effective, or have a chat with your doctor.

But it seems a lot of it is still up in the air at the moment, conflicting info and treatments.

Do wish you and hubby the best of luck

That is so weird because I had covid in August. Lost my smell and taste for about 4 days. (And for those who haven't experienced it, it's VERY different than when you lose it with a cold or flu. It's so weird) But....I've always had insane sugar cravings and haven't since I had covid. If been wondering if it was the covid or the Ivermectin that did it.

I don't think it's age because it began after our family got sick in 2020. Also, it comes and goes.

I take supplements regularly, including zinc and NAC. Hubby doesn't do any supplements. We both have the same issues

 Quoting: StellaBlue

You will do fine, and yes. Loss of sense, or changed sense of smell, for a extended period of time after a Flu, is not uncommon. It might or might, not return to normal. Often the change of smell does not return to whatever you smelled before.
Personally, i had the flu 2 years ago, and now i cannot stand my own sweat smell, and have to wash my armpits multiple times per day to not feel sick.

It is not brain damage, your smell receptors has been damaged, and had to be repaired by your body. Your receptors that had to be replaced after being damaged are not exact replica's of the ones you had before, thus your smell has changed for certain smells.

have multiple family members who got Covid too and lost taste and smell.

They said it's slowly better but they think they're just getting used to it instead of it going away.

Same symptoms you have. Ghost smells of burnt toast, coffee smells like poop, etc. Taste is greatly diminished. One described it as if I wanted a cheeseburger, i'd have to have at least two slices of cheese on it to even taste the cheese.

Weird. I get ghost burn odors, coffee stench, and diminished taste also.

I had very mild covid in late December 2020. I thought the coffee was the stench of K-cup coffee which is all I am ever around these days. I’ll find a good brewed coffee somewhere to check.

Same scenario. And with my elderly father double vaxxed behind our backs and waiting to get boosters, hope he's out of the house by then, never really get better. Take off and on large amounts of supplements.

My head isn't the same. Didn't lose my taste but things taste off often. But my smelling goes off and on into really metallic hollow kind of, harsh smell. And its never fully bounced back either.

And yes they seemed to have released something. Its still a scamdemic, because they simply should have been treating people preventatively, not really sick, with ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine and anything else.

Its not like a "flu". Flu's you feel fluey, nausea often, weak as a kitten, temperature, need to sleep. Not this. This is stuffed up, respiratory, off and on. And it feels like its circulation problem, its a blood disease, pre stroke type symptoms.

My family had covid in April 2021.

My boy recovered quickly with no problems.

I recovered in about 2 weeks total the worst parte was achy muscles in the second week. On the fourth day I lost taste and smell for half a day. I had no lingering effects other than a ghost taste and smell that seems like white styrofoam mixed with yellow butter. Not a good smell or flavor but this faint ghost taste lingered at least a month fading out. The half-day of losing taste and smell was interesting to me and worth it. I ate green beans and it simply tasted like water with chewiness. Everything tasted like water.

My wife has type A blood and I believe it is true as reported that Type A gets hit harder. She fully lost taste and smell for well over a month. None of us had any trouble breathing. Other than the taste and smell thing, it was pretty much a flu.

We are all good. In fact because we got a family dog after recovering from covid-19. I have been walking him twice a day and lost over 25 lb. My heart and Cardio is in great shape from all the walking 7-days a week! I am in much better health and fitness than before covid. Sabre is my most consistent excercise program and we've already done hundreds of miles together.

are you getting zapped by some weird frequency machine?

there’s no telling what they’ve cooked up behind closed doors

try some emf protection like from the ehmstore

or maybe go far away and see if it’s the same

they’re expensive but you could try a jammer, like for cell phones and bluetooth, we should all have one now

Re: Had covid in January 2020 and I think I might have brain damage, possibly permanent. Smell & taste issues STILL
My family had covid in April 2021.

Beautiful dog, give him pets for me! Love Huskies.

Not sure what hubby's blood type is but I'm B+

I think this crap is a bioweapon that stays in your system and resurfaces, like shingles. That's why I say- we're all fucked, be it from the vax or the bioweapon.

Permanent brain damage is serious shit. And we're still very early in the game . May whoever did this burn in hell
