Anonymous Coward User ID: 77992278 United States 10/15/2021 11:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I grew up with rotties as home protection while i was a kid. They are very easygoing around kids…. But won’t let shit come onto your property that doesnt belong there. Once when I was very young I was napping and our rottie heard someone breaking and entering. The dog jumped thru the window and attacked the guy. Keeping me safe. Years later we ended up having 7 or 8 of them. They were all very well behaved around me. They’re big babies. Wouldn’t hurt a child as long as they’re trained. I will ONLY ever get a rottie to keep my own kids safe. That being said, as adult dogs, they can have some force behind them. You’ll either want a medium to large yard or a strong person who is able to walk them daily. Don’t let your kids walk them around the block without you once they’re grown dogs. When I was 17 our beefcake of a rottie went nuts over anything with wheels. So every time a skater or bike rode by, I had to keep her leash firmly grasped or else she could have ripped out of my hand. As long as you’re stronger than a child, you’ll be alright. As long as your dog understands commands like “no” or “heel” you’ll be alright. Um, they’re also usually very quiet. Unless a stranger approaches your yard (your dog’s “territory”). They’re excellent for warning you someone approaches. 10/10 highly recommend. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79900131 Trying to decide between a Rotweiller or Doberman for home protection. Also, my god the price of puppies is insane now. Once upon a time you could get a pup for $200, now they are literally 4k for a puppy. Insane. Anyway what is your Rotweiller like? rottweiler pitbull mix, very smart and great with kids. nothing is unnoticed by him. |

Honestly I was always a little worried when my kids were young around him. He never showed anything but love for them. I always told the kids no play fighting with him especially if I wasn't around. Dont pet him if he is eating or has a bone/treat. He's never show any aggression towards anyone or anything. But if you ask my neighbors or people I know but are not family and friends... he's aggressive and known to attack so stay away. He looks scary. I like to think if someone was hurting me or my kids he would attack to defend us but not sure he would. Hope I never have to find out. Copperpenny |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 81004198 United States 11/24/2021 01:06 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'd own a Rottweiler way before a pitbull but Rottweilers are traditionally tied with a bunch of other vicious dogs for distant second place on the list of human fatalities/bites so raise them right! When you purposefully get a mean dog breed sometimes innocent circumstances turn ugly like leaving the dog with a stranger or an unfamiliar family member opening the house door or the neighborhood kid jumping the fence to retrieve a lost ball. A lot of these dogs are like a weapon with no discernment and you relying on your ability to perfectly exclude everything from the confines of your home (that is what you are after right? Well you just might get it after all and not in a good way). Pyrenees on the other hand are extremely child and pack and home protective but not generally vicious. More like a large protective mother that will scarethe crap out of 98% of the rational population. I'd rather have that around my kids and neighborhood kids. They are smart and just have this sixth sense in knowing who is a real threat. choose wisely. |

I've had a Rott, and while their good dogs, the aren't as intelligent as Shepherds, and Dobermans have issues with their brains growing larger than the brain cavity, and going insane. Shepard's are smart, loyal, good family dogs, and easily trainable. Just my thoughts. They actually used to use Dobermans and Rotties but they take longer to train. I still think Dobies and Rotties are good for families. Lovely dogs with a good natural protection instinct. |

Good thing it was winter and I had long sweater and wool coat on to cushion and it didn’t break skin - but 4 black and blue marks for a month ! The lady didn’t apologize- said that’s what they were trained to do! I bet she let them out the back! I think a German Shepard is safer around kids The Rottweiler bite was HUGE - couldave fit a kids head in their mouths |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 82400992 United States 05/12/2022 07:24 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You should consider checking out the local animal shelter. The one I work at always has 100+ dogs and it's not even a very big city. I see German shepherds all the time, Belgian shepherds, huskies, rottweilers, a few cane corsos, TONS of pitbull mixes, dobermans very rarely, american and english bulldogs... usually for $100 give or take. Scariest dog I've seen was a German shepherd who was barking at foaming at the mouth! The pitbulls have actually been (and are known to be) pretty good dogs, it's the publicity and owners that get them the bad PR. Before the war on pitbulls, it was rottweilers and dobermans in the 90's. Any dog can be dangerous, if you have kids I'd be leary of any "dangerous" breed, puppy or not. |
