Are you a photographer?

What do you shoot, primarily?

What are you packing?

Pro, Hobbyist, N00b?

Have you been published?

Me: Hobbyist, I work with aspiring models typically not signed with any agency....Facebook/IG types some looking to build an empire, some just shooting for fun. Mostly outdoors, do not have a studio or any great space to use without renting.

Packing a Nikon Z6 with Z-series 50 1.8, 85 1.8, and 105 2.8. Still have some F-mount lenses but rarely take them out.

Godox lighting (How can a person not love Godox???) AD600BM, Ad400pro, and two V1s.

Mirrorless is a game-changer, and Godox is so affordable and portable...I started in 2015 and even just a few years ago taking any kind of real lighting out into the field, by yourself...forget it.

I have been quasi-published in someone's self-published Scene rag.

If the thread has any traction let's post some shots?

Re: Off-Topic: Any Photogs here?
I'm somewhere between n00b and hobbyist with a Nikon L840 (yep, mode select style point 'n' shoot). I'm getting a Canon something with a couple of lenses as a long-term loan from my sister soon. She's had it on a shelf doing nothing for years, waiting for enough free time to start learning to shoot with it.

Never been published, have never sought to be.

My primary subjects are anything and everything little. Only use natural lighting, usually in reprehensible ways. Just over the past couple months, I've been focusing a bit on doing landscapes.

I have a few recent threads of pictures from hiking trails, so much of my recent shots are easily perused there.

Not bad at all considering equipment!

Good to hear you'll be into a DSLR for a bit. You won't want to go back, that's for sure.

Check into Godox for affordable lighting. Not sure if they have a ring light for macro/micro (insects and small subjects) but they probably do. Thanks for contributing!

'Phone camaras, compacts etc., are all bullshit.

Real photography is about catching the light - photons

Screwing around with fones & shit, irregardless the spec. is bullshit.

You require good glass or you're just fucking around, so, it's a D.S.L.R. or you're a bust .

Re: Off-Topic: Any Photogs here?
I was a national award-winning magazine photog for 30 years.

Don't think to hard about equipment. It's not what you got but what you do with it. I have Nikon but only because most of what I shoot has been studio. I would prefer Canon if I was shooting outside but that is just me and what you have is fine.

Lighting is all about style and how I light is different than most photogs. I light with many hard lights and very thin strip lights but I wouldn't recommend shooting that way because of the learning curve, and make-up artists hate that.

I pulled all my shots off the web when people started stealing them but the magazines I shot for may have them in their archived section.

Many people starting off shoot for stock image websites.

How it worx for pros now is to develop a style, post your work on Instagram or similar, and get huge amounts of followers. Clients like photogs with followers. It's free advertising for them.
