Covered pits, nets, snares, crushing traps and IEDs will take something like this out..

heck even odd patterns on the ground may be enough..

The more technically minded can create EMP pads, microwave emitters, and use radio jamming ( I assume someone is still going to have to remote control the thing to target and move...)

Once you have it immobile, wait the 8 hours till the batts are dead, and then take the weapon and ammo. And it won't be long till someone on the dark web posts a firmware upgrade to make a captured puppy a loyal guard dog

A few points on this.

1 - Yeah, okay, the tech is pretty clever.

2 - Why?

3 - if this is what is being publicly demonstrated then they already have a more capable version.

If you're in Iowa, better GTFO while you can.

Live testing of these bad boys begins there this weekend.

I wonder if discarded microwave ovens could be hacked in a way to disable these terminators?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78008453

Short answer, no.

You could MAYBE at least keep it from shooting by powering up a purposely dirty high power spark gap which hopefully whites out it's up/downlink at which point the operator can't see you/tell it to fire.

But that's assuming they don't ALLOW IT to run fully autonomous!

If it's being let to run fully autonomous and doesn't require a man in the loop to operate or at least allow guns free then even the spark gap isn't going to save you.

The reason I bring this up is because all of these quadruped bots are very much capable of running fully autonomously right now and the only guarantee we have that they won't let them run that way is because they promised they won't.

In general if you see one of these things in a combat situation.

Assume there's more you haven't seen.

Leave one person to overwatch on the bot while everyone else puts HARD terrain features between themselves and the robot and either backs away a half mile or uses hard terrain to try to get around behind it.

If you can get behind it kill it while it's distracted watching your overwatch guy.

But In reality the best option is to back off and try to go around them.

For reference, if you happen to have a 50 bmg gun M8 API should light this up fairly nice. If you have less than that just try to avoid it

These things have very sophisticated terrain pathing etc algorithms. They can maneuver better than you think they can.

Assuming someone has to radio control it is a very bad assumption.

You're all but outright wrong on that one.

Also the "app" they use to run these is called ATAK and is compatible with extremely high end frequency agile mesh networked comms.

If the operator is running it through his new revision an prc152 you basically can't jam it.

Edit: so to put this a different way.

I as a civilian can use either gotenna mesh pro or beartooth and ATAK to more or less make it beyond most people who haven't done ham radio for years capability to jam an up/downlink to run one of those from a couple miles away.

With military grade stuff, jamming is possible but it requires pretty specific knowledge about waveforms frequency bands and etc in use and one hell of a jammer! (Think hundreds of kilowatts if you need to broad spectrum jam)
