I applied at amazon for driver but i didn't pass the drug test,

I only use CBD for nutritional purposes,

which is not psychoactive,

laws in the u.s. are feeble
 Quoting: No holds barred

Same here. After 32 years Im out cause of delta 8 modified thc available at truckstops. Which is psychoactive but legal. The DOT "clearinghouse"... What a shame...
 Quoting: Pequod

That stuff gets you high though right? I can understand them not allowing that but CBD? That definitely is non-psychoactive.

I saw a Dunkin Donuts, today, they close at 2pm, can't find employees to work there.

Whatever is happening is getting worse, not better.

I don't get this shortage of drivers issue everywhere. The roads are as busy as ever but when you try to buy a washing machine say, you need to wait 2 or 3 weeks for free delivery due to this driver shortage they claim, then next sentence they offer next day delivery for 50 quid lol??

It is manufactured somewhere in the process and everything else is a knock on effect and the retailers are just cashing in on it as you now have to pay for what was once free (next day delivery)

I worked at a donut shop in high school after school until 10:30 pm in the late 80s. Cleaning and selling. It actually was a great job for a 1 employee loner. Barely anybody came in other then cops and I was baked off my ass and drinking special export on the weekends. Plenty of time to get homework done and worked there through my first two years of community college.

After two major tech layoffs in this journey, I would go back to that job in a heartbeat.

Seems like wages aren't paying enough. Kick up wages, and you'll find enough people.

$50 per hour
$100 per hour
$200 per hour

Whatever it takes. If the shipping issue was real, and as big of a deal as they make it to be, it could easily be resolved.

But it won't be. IT'S BY DESIGN. Obvious tell.

Plenty of trucking firms under 100 employees hiring, that pay BETTER than companies like ODF.

The problem with being a trucker, if you're married, is that you're seldom home.

Also, many women "entertain" themselves while your gone.

What kind of guy wants to leave home for weeks and always be wondering who the old lady is banging? Not too may guys would like that setup.

In summary, if you're single it might be a great opportunity to live on the cheap, work all you can and save for a down payment on a home.

I’m confused….and this is ABSOLUTELY not an informed view…but here in NE Ohio, I still see just as many trucks on the roads now as I did pre-pandemic. When you travel the big highways and turnpikes as much as I do, you’d notice a difference if there was a substantial one.
 Quoting: Larphillips

If I understand it right this is the excuse they are using for why all the back up at the ports, specifically Long Beach etc.

Last time I checked there were like 70 cargo containers fully loaded and just sitting off shore waiting to unload. Add to that there is also something like 240 of the same ships loaded and ready to go off the 2 largest ports in China.

So like literally hundreds of thousands of cargo containers to be shipped at some point once they are put on trucks.

If there be a trucker shortage it is because rates are already high and truckers don't have to go to California to make a good living right now.

This be why they don't want to go to California.

It's their fucking one of a kind fuck you all clean air regs.

Their is no shortage of trucks to haul freight nor truckers to haul it. There's a good reason to avoid California like the plague if you can and right now theres plenty of freight without suffering Californias bullshit.

The shortages are deliberate. Job wise, you all damn well know it's primarily because of the kill shot requirement by many businesses. I don't know one person who doesn't want to work and I know plenty who have lost their job because they won't take a kill shot.

From my own experience railheads and ports. They all suck. Most the workers are union and assholes. They drag thier feet to do anything. I have seen them smash into trailers then drive away not a care in the world.
Most port / railhead drivers are owner operators. A large amount of them went under when covid hit and nothing was coming in. A lot went to other companies or other jobs.
Rail and port drivers are kinda looked down on by the trucking community. They have a reputation for running substandard trucks, driving aggressively, running illegal, and just being generally low class assholes.

Shipping companies across the nation on Monday are reportedly struggling to find truck drivers to ease port backlogs on the east and west coasts.

Old Dominion Freight Line will reportedly hire any driver with or without experience, KHQ NBC reported Sunday. The need is so great, Old Dominion held a job fair Saturday to “hire 10 line drivers who can haul several trailers across the state” while offering to train anyone who wishes to earn a C.D.L. license.

Michael Deneen with Old Dominion told KHQ the pandemic has made finding truck drivers more difficult jerkit

due to the unemployment checks that drivers may be receiving from Democrat-controlled states. Deneen also thinks the labor shortage will carry over and impact the 2021 holiday season and beyond.

“Christmas is going to be, this year is going to be impacted greatly by not just trucking but through the whole logistic network is a little bit out of whack,” Deneen said. “So buy early,

we’re going to work ourselves out of it but it’s going to be a couple of years of going through this new normal right now.” jerkit

Co-head of AlixPartners’ retail consulting practice, Joel Bines, told the Financial Times Sunday retailers will have difficulty securing the “most in-demand” items this year for Christmas because of the supply chain crisis.

In other words...It's the new normal Bitchezzzz so get used to it.....Oh and you're going to pay a whole lot more for it!

Duh, you can't get a CDL commercial drivers license if your pee test showes marijuana in your urine. Marijuana stays in your urine for weeks. Drop the federal mandates to test for marijuana use and you have no more shortage of CDL holders.
I'm not saying its ok to use marijuana while or right before driving a truck. But while not driving the night before should be allowed. Problem solved.

Been trucker for years. All the jobs out there now no young people want to do the hours. Being gone for days etc. Weekends... Not hard to understand. Hell I dont want too be here. That is the problem. Only people we get are 65 retired and want the hiring bonus. Young people will not live this life. Like I said dont blame them. Not a great life to live. Along with some where many people went poof for other jobs so they pay more. Where the hell did everyone go??? Dead? I do not know.

And people who say there are as many trucks on the road as before. BS. Truck stops are not as full. I know it looks busy as always but nope. Its has to be 20 percent less or more is my guess. To many other jobs and bull shit you have to go through now days to get a cdl. Not going to happen for most people. Hell I am thinking of getting out. Sick of the dispatch calling oh hey can you take this run??? We really need you. After a while double pay they offer even is not enough. Thinking of taking a job being a janitor that pays 25 bucks a hour now since they cant find anyone. 8 hrs a day and home every night. Fuck this life on the road.

I agree with you, for a lousy 44 cents per mile, it is not doing OTR. As they say, it's not a job, it's a "lifestyle", albeit one that sucks. Throw in the dash cams that phone home every time you hit the brakes a bit too hard or follow another truck too closely, it's like, "Who needs this bullshit?".

My dream is for all the OTR drivers to just quit and let the fuckers starve.

The shipping Companies are in on it and being paid DOUBLE to sit off shore .

CCP is at war with us . DUH !

The same strategy we used on Japan is beingused against the USA by China .

Can it be any clearer . We are being DENIED product and rescources intentionally in order to break our supply chains .

Meanwhile Chinese boys are in Scouting Clubs assembling AK-47's and Operating Anti air craft batteries for fun .

AT THE AGE OF 10 !

American boys are pacified with TV and video games . Missing Father's and Liberal Dem Mother's who despise America .

This is how they intend to WALK INTO CALIFORNIA un-opposed !

They will hold us hostage with Nukes on our own soil .

Our Real Enemy is MEXICO , CCP , EUROPEAN NATIONS CHARTER under the U.N. and Russia being last .

The entire nation of the USA should be preparingfor a MAJOR CONFLICT on or near our own soil .

I work on USMC bases here in JAcksonville NC .

MANY NEW BARRACKS ARE BEING REVAMPED AND BUILT FOR A MASSIVE DRAFT COMING !

USMC will be lowering it's elgibility protocols as well because they will need riflemen for the MEAT GRINDER soon .

The NEWS says the California port situation is caused by a driver shortage.

Not so fast: It is in part caused by a California Truck Ban which says all trucks must be 2011 or newer and a law called AB 5 which prohibits Owner Operators.

Traditionally the ports have been served by Owner Operators (non union). California has now banned Owner Operators.
Long term, truckers in California are not investing in new trucks because California has a law that makes them illegal in 2035. The requirement is to purchase electric trucks which do not exist.

And in the words of Paul Harvey, “Now you know the rest of the story”

BUSINESS
CARB to begin blocking certain trucks’ DMV registrations in 2020

Carriers domiciled in California with trucks older than 2011 model, or using engines manufactured before 2010, will need to meet the Board’s new Truck and Bus Regulation beginning in 2020 or their vehicles will be blocked from registration with the state’s DMV, the state has said.

The new “health-based requirements” will need to be met before a driver is allowed to register his or her truck through the Department of Motor Vehicles, CARB says. A new enforcement tool used by the DMV beginning in 2020 will automatically block 2010 and older trucks from registration
