JESUS IS THE PROMISED SEED OF ABRAHAM

Now, the Bible tells us that the promised
seed referred not only to Isaac but also to
Jesus who was born of the family of Israel in
the city of Nazareth, around 2000 years ago.
Jesus is known as the Christ or Messiah which
means the anointed one. Anointed means to be
rubbed by oil and set apart for use by God.
Jesus was anointed by God and that is why He
is known as Jesus Christ.

Gal 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were
the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds,
as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed,
which is Christ.
Gal 3:17 And this I say, that the covenant, that
was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law,
which was four hundred and thirty years after,
cannot disannul, that it should make the
promise of none effect.
Gal 3:18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it
is no more of promise: but God gave it to
Abraham by promise.

THE COVENANT OF ABRAHAM VERSUS THE LAW OF MOSES

Jesus Christ is the ultimate seed of the
promise to Abraham. The giving of the law to
Moses came years later and it does not annul
the promises to Abraham. Keeping the rules of
the law does not give us the inheritance of the
promises because righteousness is by faith
and obedience which is what Abraham did to
receive the promises. You see, God gave
19

written laws to Israel so that everyone would
understand God’s standard of right living. God
knew that people could not keep to the laws by
their own strength. So, God established the
standard and then God sent His Son, Jesus, to
show us the right way to live by that standard;
which Jesus did by living by faith and
obedience to God.

JESUS OBEYED GOD’S VOICE PERFECTLY

Joh 5:19 Then answered Jesus and said unto
them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can
do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the
Father do: for what things soever he doeth,
these also doeth the Son likewise.

Joh 12:49 For I have not spoken of myself; but
the Father which sent me, he gave me a
commandment, what I should say, and what I
should speak.
Joh 12:50 And I know that his commandment is
life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore,
even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

The Bible tells us that Jesus did what the
Father showed him and spoke what the Father
said to him. Jesus, Himself, is the Word of
God, in the Spirit and Jesus came to us as a
man to show us all how to live right. Jesus
came to CONFIRM the covenant with Abraham
which re-connects us to Father God again, so
that we can hear God, obey Him and live
righteously.
Jesus had a ministry of teaching and
preaching for three years. He claimed to be the
Son of God. You can read His words to us in
the four books in the Bible called the Gospel,
which means the “Good News”. The coming of
Jesus was predicted in the Bible writings,
called Scriptures, many years before His birth.
He was born of a virgin named Mary so that
Jesus had no earthly father. Because of His
virgin birth, Jesus was both man and God. He
started His ministry at age 30 and the Holy
Spirit of God came upon Him when He was
baptized in water by His cousin John the
Baptist. Once Jesus was filled with the Holy
Spirit of God, He obeyed the guidance of the
Spirit for the rest of His life.
Jesus obeyed God throughout His
ministry. Even when God’s guidance led Him
to be accused by the religious leaders of His
time, who called for His death, Jesus still
21

obeyed God even when it led Him to be
executed by them together with the political
power of Rome. The key here is that although
Jesus had the power of God working in Him
and He could have stopped His enemies, He
went to die by the will of God because after
three days Jesus was the only man to be raised
from the dead back to life by God. It is this
resurrection from the dead by Jesus that gives
us all hope that God will raise us also and that
we will have eternal life together with Father
God.
