10 CHAPTER ONE - SOME INFORMATION ABOUT JESUS MEETING WITH ABRAHAM Who is Jesus? To understand who Jesus is we must go back further in time to a man named Abraham. Abraham learned how to hear the Voice of God, just like we will learn to hear God from reading this book. Originally Abraham was known as Abram and years later his name was changed to Abraham. Gen_12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: Gen_12:4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; 11 Here we see from the Bible’s book called Genesis, and in chapter 12 and in verses 1 and 4, that Abram was able to hear God’s voice. Please notice that Abraham heard God and then he obeyed what God asked him to do. Abraham shows us two things that are the most important in our relationship with God: Faith and Obedience. FAITH AND OBEDIENCE The dictionary tells us that faith is complete trust or confidence in someone or something. We all practice faith every day. When you are driving you have faith that the other driver will stop at a red light and that you can proceed safely through your green light. Please stop and think of other ways that we use faith in our everyday lives. We live in a faith- based creation. Heb_11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 12 The Bible defines faith as a substance, which is real physical matter, and so that matter is the substance of our hope. Also, faith is the evidence of a reality even though we may not see it. A good example is the air that we breathe. We cannot see the oxygen molecules but we have faith that they are present. Our faith, then, becomes the substance of our hope and the evidence that the oxygen will be there when we breathe. Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. RELATIONSHIP WITH FATHER GOD The first step in building a relationship with Father God is to have the faith that He exists. We must believe in God. When we seek God, He blesses us with good things. The second step in building a relationship with Father God, that Abraham shows us, is 13 obedience. As we learn to hear God’s voice, just like Abraham did, then we will hear His advice on decisions that we have to make. At that point we can choose to obey God’s guidance or not. If we obey God’s commandments that He gives to us personally, then our lives will be blessed. Abraham teaches us that faith and obedience pleases God. Why do we want to please God? Just as we do with a human father, we children want our behavior to please Father God because it makes Him happy and proud of us. Father God does everything for us, He gives us life and all good things come from God. In return for His blessings then, we should give Him our desire to make right decisions.
