Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Re: NW Wheat Stocks In Storage Dip 40% Year-Over-Year From Pacific Northwest Ag Net These are not Irish Potato Famine kind of figures, but they sure aren't good news, either. Oats and corn, which weren't hurt so badly, are mostly animal feed, but that isn't good news either as it can cause the cost of meat to increase even further. The wheat which was planted last fall and harvested first this summer, didn't totally fail as a result of the draught. But we saw so much wheat ground just plowed under this spring for lack of rain for the spring planting. The wheat which did make it to harvest, however, is a soft wheat which raised for the export market. It is used in Asia for their wheat products, not a wheat strain which goes for bread and pasta, for the most part. We'll have to see what the rest if the year will bring, but if I were you, I would invest in some all purpose or bread flour, some yeast, and become friends with retired engineer Steve over at Youtube, who is now happily teaching people how to bake bread. Quoting: WiscoSteve It has been a brutal year. There were no spring rains. None. Farmers seeded into dust, watied for the rain, then in late May or June, they plowed it under, as even if the rain came, there wasn't time for the wheat to grow and ripen. People who grew up here, had never seen a year like this. *** Good deeds bring rewards, bad actions bring troubles. That is a law of the universe. *** |
