err, why would I want to write that many words if I'm not writing a book? ha

Last year I wrote almost two-million words, not counting emails and GLP posts.

No way I can keep up that pace, but a million seems plausible.




My message to anybody who wants to become a writer: Write. Every single day.

And if you can do that, you already are a writer.

I actually have the opposite view.

Before I ever began I told myself, quality through quantity. Like sifting for flakes of gold. The more you sift -- the more you write -- the more gold you're going to find.

And that's not even a metaphor

Pro tip: Start writing each day before you feel like writing.

Begin when you're feeling lazy. Force yourself to do it, because over time the pleasure overwhelms inertia, and you'll be writing from a position of desire rather than dread.

It might take several days, but it's worth it.

I used to write and diagram some stuff until my ex-wife showed my work to my psychiatrist and I spent a couple of weeks in the nuthouse.

Hate to break it to you, 2 McDoubles, but that's nearly the best opening sentence to a novel I've ever never read.
