We hired what we thought were legit movers out of FL. Turns out, they brokered our load to a trucking company out of NJ who now has full possession of our whole life and is now blocking our calls. They picked up our whole house' contents on July 20th in WA ST. We moved to AZ and arrived in our personal vehicle 5 days later and still haven't received our goods. Our life has become very different to put it mildly.

Re: Has anyone hired a moving company recently and not received their goods? We did and are in a nightmare.
I've contacted: the actual moving Co. (Alliance Moving and Storage) about 50 times and get lip service; AMM Trucking LLC, never once answered a call and only send generic texts indicating load delivery windows x4 that have come and gone; FBI took a report; Hawthorne NJPD who initially tried to help then said it's been turned over to a higher authority. (feds?); hometown PD who took a report; FMCSA (useless fed/DOT reg. agcy.); AZ ST Att. gen/ST Trooper (tried to help, now scarce communications). No atty. wants to take the case.

They claim it's in a warehouse, but I suspect storage unit, best case or theft of my packed gun safe, so now they are just stalling. Check AMM Trucking LLC on FB. Many horror stories being told. They appear to be a criminal outfit. We had no idea the moving company was brokering our load.

Once your move is more than 1 or 2 states away, that is what they do. I moved from MA to NY, NP- followed truck but rest went to Florida and they brokered it, put in storage a while and I am missing stuff, plus the guys were not nice like the MA guys, tried to just dump my stuff blocks away because they said the truck couldn't get in / out cul-de-sac, luckily a neighbor directed them and pulled out a few mailboxes so they got in / out.

Re: Has anyone hired a moving company recently and not received their goods? We did and are in a nightmare.
these companies lease warehouse space in GIGANTIC rack warehouses all over the country.
It will probably be ok. These places get so many calls that they just ignore all of them.
The most important thing is to make sure you are ALWAYS available at point of drop off.
They can call 1 hr before drop off, or no call at all, just a drive up and knock on the door, and if you are not there, they will just take it to another warehouse and dump it off to be re-scheduled, and blame you, of course.
That is where the big problems start. info gets mixed up, your stuff is again contracted out to another local guy and poof your stuff gets lost.
I used to buy these "lost" mover pallets at auction from these warehouses for about 5 years.

always better to rent trucks and pay drivers and never let the trucks leave your sight

Never ever use a moving company, especially a no-name one. Hire people locally to help load a U-haul or other rented truck, & then hire more locals at the other end to help unload.

A lot of these no-name moving companies are notorious for loading all your stuff up, then changing the terms & trying to charge out the ass for you to get your stuff back.

This happened to me 2 years ago. The movers eventually showed up. NEVER AGAIN. Do it yourself is the only way.

That said, OP, I understand your stress. I was losing my mind over it. Damn dishonest movers have ruined the industry.

I have never had any problems (that would suck) but the last 2 moves I've used Old Dominion and ABF and hired local to load and unload (it saves thousands) This time it took over a week to get my stuff (4 hr drive) because they route this stuff weird, I know at one point my stuff was sitting in a warehouse in Chicago, which is WAY out of the way (So Mo to Chicago to So Il)

This. I used ABF U-pack cubes. I hired movers on both ends to load and unload. I did all the packing.

If it still works the way it used to, there was something like a 72 hour delivery window. You have to be available anytime during that window they'll call the evening before to schedule and then 30 minutes out. The cubes move for a day then park somewhere for 2 or 3. They were trackable. Took like 2 weeks in transit. This was all disclosed up front.

Yep, it's known as a hostage load/move. I offered them more money, but they said not necessary but I do have the feds and AZ/NJ police involved so...maybe they at least say they are adhering to contract.
