Universal Basic Income. Phoenix to use covid taxpayer federal funding for UBI pilot

One thousand lucky Phoenix families will get $1,000 in taxpayer funding a month in 2022.

The Phoenix City Council has approved $12 million for a “Financial Assistance for Phoenix Families Program,” a lottery-based form of universal basic income that will begin in January 2022 if not sooner...



...Phoenix joins a handful of other cities to test out the premise of universal basic income. California’s most recent budget includes $35 million to pay for a similar program. The cities of Los Angeles, Compton and Richmond, Virginia, have approved similar programs.

The city of Chicago is considering a similar program.

We could probably give a decent middle class UBI to the entire United States for what the banking criminals have robbed from our country.

I bet that 80% of our existing national debt is lining the pockets of these crminals.

All anyone who is interested in UBI is watch (or preferably READ) "The Expanse."

It's sci-fi, set in the future, where billions of people all over the world get UBI, which lets them live in squalor. There are so few jobs, if you want to work, unless you're an elite, you'll be on a waiting list for decades.

The irony is, the two writers who write as S.A. Corey, are very lefty, and they see UBI as society destroying.

I moved to Phoenix when i was 19. I got married had a kid and was a med tech i worked six days a week 330 am to 9 pm and went to nursing school part time. I hate Arizona. I moved back to Iowa. The ex wife is now a homeless heroin addict out there. Did I mention how much I hate Phoenix? Once my transmission went out on my car and i had to run from 48th Street and Ray road to Central and Baseline for weeks till i saved enough money to get new car. Run 10.4 miles work 17 hours then run home. Some people just have a different work ethic raised into them.

Im in Arizona too and hate it...it has been invaded by all the California Libs. The traffic has become California like along with the cost of living. Im originally from the midwest and will be relocating back there by next year.

As for the UBI I have not heard one thing about it. It has not been talked about on local news nor have seen anything in the Arizona Republic. What lottery? How do you sign up for such a lottery? Who are these people getting it? Crazy!

My guess is it will initially come with no strings attached.
To get the majority of people to want to go on it.

Either because they're low skilled and lazy and don't want to work.
Or they'll make more money on UBI than working. Or they don't want to deal with all the mask, testing, and vaccine mandates. And they don't have the skills to work for themselves, or to be able to generate their own income.

Once they've killed off all the small and medium sized businesses, and all or most stuff is automated or robotized, and have the majority of the population dependent on it. That's when they'll likely make the death jab mandatory ( probably other mandates too, like being microchipped) to receive it or any type of government assistance.

Then the government, and large corporations, will have full control of, and will micromanage the lives of everyone on it.

Good summary but for them it's really an objective, not a reality, yet. They're moving that way, to control everyone's lives and they have an infrastructure to do so but the actual practice will always be different.

Entirely possible. But it's hard for me to believe that if I lived there, I would be eligible to win the free money.

I think there's a big difference between social welfare and UBI. UBI, as proposed by the left, would be a liveable salary (25-35k a year) paid to all adults regardless of circumstances. That would cause an explosion in the population of NEETs - I personally know multiple people who would absolutely quit their jobs and just live off that playing video games all day for the rest of their life.

I am aware of the Finnish study showing that UBI motivated people to work harder, but since all participants knew it was only a temporary pilot program its results really aren't applicable for a permanent UBI program.

Do they need to pay tax on this? THEY SHOULD!

It absolutely has NO relation to UBI. It's free money for a few families chosen due to income level, and accomplishes nothing concrete, though I'm sure it will be nice for them.

Unless you are choosing a large cross-section of society, all in a contained geographic region, and with varying income levels and employment, it's just giving away cash. Buying hope votes too, maybe, as those that WANT to avoid work hope to be funded by those that DO work.

What a waste of time. But as I said, nice for those few families.

If its for the poor, and its called a lottery, then it is a welfare cheque, not UBI, and bound to fail. It doesn't understand.

UBI works when the middle class and everybody else also gets it. They may take a short mental health break and weigh their options. Most people do something if the alternative is boredom.

It gives people the incentive to risk making a change in their circumstances, ie leave a relationship, go somewhere else or try something new, when the motivation is fulfillment. Some will be attracted to build better communities by working in lower paid community service jobs.

Research reveals many people end up making moar money following their dream when they can afford to take a risk because now they have a security net.

However in some towns it didn't work, while in others it did. It needs wise dynamic fine tuning to adjust the character of each town. Changes will result as people adapt to the opportunity.
