The currency will be whatever is at hand:
-hard alcohol, this was popular on the US frontier.
-hard candy
-leather or dried meats
-grains
-any manufactured item that can be divided and is non-perishable.
People will trade with whatever is at hand and that has enough visible value to be able to retrade and not spoil.
