Impacts like this are typically from asteroids or comets that originated in our solar system. Very, very, very few interstellar objects have been observed.

And isn't Jupiters surface covered in a continuous storm or something?

I wanna say this isn't very uncommon. Still cool though!

Yeah I heard about this back when it happened. Didn't feel like making a thread on it. I'm honestly just getting sick of getting called a hoaxer, shill, liar, etc. Amateur astronomers are observing the planets quite vigilantly, which is why about 9 different people saw this impact simultaneously. I wouldn't call the object that did this "enormous." If it were, it would have left an impact scar on the planet, but it didn't. The size was estimated at 20 meters.

If we didn't see anything fly past us big enough to cause that, then it was something on the surface...eh?

I was wondering about not leaving a scar because I remember the scars left by that broken-up asteroid/comet that hit Jupiter a while back.

Could this have possibly been something that exploded from Jupiter's surface rather than something hitting it?
