This should be required reading, along with Orwell's 1984.

Read both several times. Get your copies before they're banned.

Add "Fahrenheit 451" to that list too.

I'd add Animal Farm and Brave New World. I find it revealing that Huxley and Orwell were writing each other. I'd also add Propaganda by Edward Bernays. Edward was Sigmund Freud's nephew.

All started with Edward Bulwer-Lytton's 'Vril - the Power of the Coming Race'; which Satanist Theosophy founder Helena Blavatsky claimed to be veiled fact...

The 'fact' being the plan to enslave the earth by dabbling in the occult and demonic (ie. science, being the state of knowing, is the tool of luciferianism for with science (knowledge) they aspire to become gods. Remember a couple years ago, conveniently during the lead-up right before the CVD explosion, CEOs quitting in droves all around the world?

Of course, it seems YouTube has removed anything pertinent, but Pepperidge Farm remembers!

I wasn't paying attention to much during that time. What's the deal with Pepperidge Farm?

WE CHECKED OUT ALMOST 15 YEARS AGO.

SHUT DOWN A VERY SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS THAT EMPLOYED PEOPLE, PAID TAXES, PROVIDED SERVICES AND WAS A HUGE ECONOMIC ENGINE TO THE COMMUNITY. WE SAW THAT THE HARDER WE WORKED AND THE MORE WE MADE THE MORE THE GOVERNMENT TOOK AND INTERFERED WITH WHAT WE DID.

SO WE BAILED.

BOUGHT A RUN DOWN FARM FAR AWAY FROM THE URBAN/SUBURBAN CENTERS AND OVER TIME TAUGHT OURSELVES EVERYTHING WE NEEDED TO BECOME SELF SUFFICIENT. RAISED OUR KIDS HERE, FIT INTO A NEW COMMUNITY, DISENGAGED FROM POP CULTURE AND THE CONSUMER MINDSET, PICKED UP ALL KINDS OF NEW SKILLS AND DISCOVERED WHAT LIFE IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT. WE NOW HAVE HERDS OF CATTLE, SHEEP, GOATS AND SWINE, FLOCKS OF CHICKENS, TURKEYS AND DUCKS, GARDENS AND ORCHARDS, A SUGARHOUSE, GREENHOUSES, BARNS AND SHEDS, WELLS AND PONDS, WOODLOTS AND PASTURES.

WE DON'T EARN EVEN A SMALL FRACTION OF WHAT WE ONCE MADE BUT WE'RE A THOUSAND TIMES HAPPIER, WE GET TO SPEND OUR TIME WITH EACH OTHER AND OUR FRIENDS, PURSUE WHATEVER INTERESTS US WHENEVER WE LIKE AND HAVE THE RESPECT OF OUR NEIGHBORS.

I HAD A YOUNG MAN COME UP TO THE FARM YESTERDAY- HE OWNS A NICE SPOT ON THE NEXT MOUNTAIN OVER AND HE AND HIS WIFE LIVE IN A TINY CABIN THEY BUILT THEMSELVES. THEY ARE EXPECTING THEIR FIRST CHILD AND JUST GETTING STARTED ON BEING HOMESTEADERS. I WISH I COULD TELL YOU HOW GRATIFYING IT IS TO SEE YOUNGER PEOPLE TURNING AWAY FROM OUR DECADENT AND DECLINING CULTURE AND LOOKING FOR A PATH BACK TO WHAT'S TRULY VALUABLE AND REWARDING IN LIFE.

IF ANY OF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT IT LET ME ASSURE YOU THAT IT IS BOTH EASIER AND MORE SATISFYING THAN YOU COULD EVER IMAGINE. WE WERE JUST AS TRAPPED IN OUR OLD LIFESTYLE AS ANYONE COULD BE, BUT WE KNEW THAT SOMETHING WAS VERY WRONG WITH THE WAY THINGS WERE GOING AND WE DIDN'T WANT TO CONTRIBUTE EITHER OUR TIME OR OUR RESOURCES TO SOMETHING THAT WASN'T GOOD FOR US.

YOU CAN DO IT TOO.

This year I've entertained thoughts about living in an Amish based community not to join their religion but to be near people living closer to the land.

A couple of decades ago, a lengthy trip to Bali shifted my worldview. I spent a couple weeks where communities are (were) centered around first practicing their religion in daily life whereby they strived not to create negative karma for fear they would be forced to return to future incarnations here. Ha! Don't blame them.

The second focus was on the family and the third, the community. At the time, they lived very close to the land, and each community/village structure was centered around one craft (silversmithing, batik fabric weaving and creation, basket weaving, stone carving, wood furniture, etc). The elders were master craftsmen with stunning hand skills and few power tools, and they were responsible for teaching the youth.

Prior to the experience and following, I've never been amongst a group of people so happy, fulfilled and grateful.

When I was reinserted into the US and all the corporate and consumer bullshit, I sat on the couch and physically wept. I never returned to the corporate life but consulted instead and spent a significant amount of years caring for family members. Now, I want to live closer to the land...and away from mentally ill people. chuckle

I appreciate and applaud your family and the decisions you made.

Cheers! And wishing you continued abundance and peace.

Oh ffs. Us it 2010 again?

Nothing has done more to fuck this country besides Donald Trump than the gawd dang book and the stupid bitch narcissist that wrote it.

We live in a civil society. Fucking Objectivism was foisted on us by a Russian. Most likely a subversive, working to undermine democracy.

Because, at its core, Objectivism is unfeeling, it causes hyper individualism and it is unyielding, all of which degrade the common good and civil society.

In sum, the key principles of Objectivism are: Reality is an absolute, reason is man's only means of knowledge, man has free will (the choice to think or not), self-interest is moral, individual rights are absolute, capitalism is moral, and good art is crucial to good living

At face value, I see absolutely nothing wrong with that ideology as listed. It's liberty, which also requires personal responsibility to others in doing no harm.

Though in that list, "good art" is highly subjective for a principle as well as being a bizarre value indicator. I think I might have replaced it with "responsible science" as crucial to "good living" and advancement.

And, for the record, no, there have been many presidents who have created more damage... one who is in the White House well on his way to destroying The Republic as an extension of Obama's destruction and Woodrow Wilson are those top-of-mind.

As far as "civil society", do you not see the destruction of all civility and the "fabric of society" from the Marxist-commie "democrats"? Who, as an aside, mostly behave like spoiled brat, bully toddlers.

Well, the big problem (and the one big logical fault) Rand literally shrugged aside is energy.

Yeah, in the book the entire "Galts Gulch" is powered by some mysterious device in a box, a literal "deus ex machina" to fix her error, to wipe away the problems a society would have without energy (electrical) to get things done.

So everybody can live like a civilized person in all the comfort without annoying workers or slaves around to do what electrical machines do like pump water and sewage, ....

When you look at the power output of a human compared to the energy contained in a gallon of gas or diesel, you will need a sh*tton of manual labour to get things done, and house them and feed them and keep them domestic and...

Basically ancient rome or egypt levels of ratio of servs and masters.

So she threw in her mystery box that solves it all.

Yeah, nice idea, until you can run your own reactor AND fix it and fuel it and ... well it seems we need some bigger systems around to keep energy shipped, stored, converted ... than some weirdos in a valley.

That is the point, else "Tesla" come on.. debunked since decades as fraud at best seperating gullible investors from their money and he dies (as most scammers do) poor and forgotten.

There is a reason we use AC-Current and other "non-tesla" tech now and likely far into the future.

That "free energy"-meme is hopium, nothing else.

That's.not.the.point. Do you perceive and interpret all works of fiction in such literal terms?

I did the same 23yrs ago, my son is now 23. I don't raise as many animals as I used to though, luckily for me most of my neighbors do. I'm more of a gardener.

You are simply evil, your entire world view is demonic. Individual rights are absolute, you want to test me?

Howard Roark laughed. Always read fountainhead before atlas, gets you into the egoist mindset. Read all her stuff in the early 70s. Prophetic.

We have done this too; we relocated to NZ from the NE USA in 2008. Recently added home-slaughtering/butchering to our repertoire. It's hard to describe the sense of satisfaction that comes from raising and growing your own food and participating fully and directly in the cycle of life. The word "abundance", in every sense, comes to mind. Wonderful life for us and our young children :)

I used this to end pressure from a salesperson lately.

The guy was all let me introduce you to so and so and we can help you if you need to hire blah blah. I responded, I'm not doing anything. I've gone John Galt.

Never heard from him again.
