It all started with ID cards, I know for a fact there were people back then that were warning others what ID cards would lead to and of course no one listened. I've heard all about it from older relatives over the course five decades, some of them passed decades ago themselves and if they could see the world today they would say "told you so".

It's the same with insurance, gun laws, saftey laws, anti-smoking and everything else. Anytime you start supporting something being mandatory or a right being taken away you open the door to anything else that politicians feel like doing one day. Even now, people balk and say "it's only common sense to have this law and that law". No. It isn't. It's ignorant stupid bullshit and no matter how well it's packaged and how much a law is made to look like it's for your benefit, it's intened to be used to control you. This is the result.
