Japan's sudden mobilization of that many troops is unprecedented in peacetime.

Given that the country's military has always had a self-defence oriented, non-aggressive posture since the end of the Second World War, I'm thinking they wouldn't be doing a snap mobilization unless they were expecting something serious to be happening soon.

Japan's sudden mobilization, China's recently very aggressive behaviour in the region, and the urgent meeting of government officials in Canberra for security reasons give me the sense that we have cause for serious concern.

It could be the case that war with China over Taiwan or some other cause is imminent. Or at the very least, is coming very soon.

If anyone wonders why the supply chains coming out of China are still snarled up, it could be the case that China are cutting them off in its own mobilization efforts and reserving raw materiel for war production.

Time will tell.

Doesn't seem to make sense for there to be an urgent meeting regarding an announcement about a pact between UK/USA/Australia since these entities would already know they have a pact - were they not expecting the USA to make an announcement about the pact and that prompted the meeting? Is the USA actually tipping off China by making this announcement?
