Well that is very dangerous escalation of the eruption.

The problem is that this is a new vent, not the main one.

I'm still waiting for the INVOLCAN to answer how far is this new vent from the main one, I don't know if the new vent can be graded as a new volcano or just part of the same one
 Quoting: Mal'akh HaPanim

These "vents" are all part of Cumbre Vieja...it is the one volcano in southern La Palma...the caldera is to the north but it's dormant.... The problem is in multiple vents opening means a longer and more intense eruption in all probability and for the rest of the World more potential destabilization of the already weakened Western flank of La Palma...

La Palma update ... Aa lava and what to look for in the coming weeks..

 Quoting: Humanitarianlike

 Quoting: Humanitarianlike

I'm surprised that only 1% of La Palma has been covered by lava.

.
 Quoting: Whatever It Takes

It's a sizable island, which is growing slowly by the week.

Most of the lava until recently was flowing over same places.

He has interesting comments and feels the magma output is closer to the higher estimates (in comment section).

He also says once the magma out/lava flow drops below 5/sec (?) the vents will solidify and activity would cease or drastically reduced. Could be a while yet.

I think it is part of the same one, but in any case, it means eruption is broadening in size and scope, bad news for locals as now even bigger area might get badly damaged, by Pyroclastic or Lava flows..

It's really not that far from the one we have been watching all this time. It is a little south and more to the east which would put it further up the ridge...

A new vent.

Isn't all the vent the same volcano? If so, doesn't that mean more and more pressure is being released which is a good thing so that it doesn't explode in a horrible way??

Freaked my wife and me out !

I have been watching the thread since day one as I am near the coast…

I was starting to wear out checking the forum every couple hours…

So while she was in the kitchen, listening to music on Alexa, I said “hey Alexa, when should we expect the tsunami on the East Coast? “

Alexa said “the tsunami will arrive on the East Coast sometime Saturday morning”

I swear.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74774681

 Quoting: Dr.Rick

I just asked mine in English "when will the tsunami hit the US east coast?"

It answered in Spanish "lo siento no lo sé" (I'm sorry, I don't know).

First time I've ever seen it mix languages, it has always responded in whatever language a request or question was made in. So "I don't know" is not odd but the response itself was.
If I had a dollar for every time I got suspicious...

I'd wonder who was paying me, and why?

My point IS simple.

500 billion tons moving has a LOT of force.

Whatever stopped the slide in 1949 held up to that force. So I believe that which anchors the mass will need a hit strong enough to break the anchoring mass
 Quoting: Nonentity

Couldn't the blazing HOT lava moving through be enough to "soften" the anchors, so to speak?

the magma rising produces what is called harmonic tremors and they are signed a bit different in the seismographs. Also a volcanic eruption (with a shake) is signed differently too than a plain earthquake.
